@Nichelle I finished mine too. But am waiting a few days to mail it back because the road to the local post office is still flooded from hurricane Milton.
To speak within my lane: cis men, one thing we can do to help with the many missing stairs in our communities is to stand up and use the authority we're granted, by being men, to make it clear when behavior/speech we see isn't acceptable. It can be scary and uncomfortable, but usually less so for us than for those more vulnerable. And "pre visualization" works: you can make it less scary if you decide ahead of time, mentally rehearse it effectively, that you're going to do it...
As I wake up to the first morning with running #water coming out of my faucets in quite some time... I am mildly amazed at the Herculean effort required to accomplish this feat.
Considering the devastation and the videos of our water system that I've seen I was completely prepared for months.
Standing ovation for all of you water system workers out there waist deep in mud hooking up monster pipes.
In writing, the importance of team work is often played down. The myth is always of the lone wolf, isolated in a room or cabin for weeks until they emerge with their genius manuscript.
I prefer to think of writing as team work. With peers, critique groups, mentors, alpha/beta readers, researchers, editors, artists, publishers, etc. all working together towards a final product that burns with many fires. 1/2
@GottaLaff Aaaand want to know why it still won't happen?
Because amending the Constitution is a state-by-state thing, too, just like the Electoral College the majority wants to remove. And the small states that benefit from that rigged system won't disempower themselves.
Like others mentioned yesterday, I feel like there are a lot of instances where self-published authors are getting scammed or taken advantage of. Even if an influencer only asks for a paperback copy of the book without a fee, there’s no guarantee you’ll get a review.
And it’s not actually free. In fact, between the cost of the author copy and shipping, it’s more expensive for us to send it than it is for them to just buy it themselves.
#WritersCoffeeClub 22Sep—Would you ever pay for a review? Have you? Do you feel it’s worth it?
A thread.
I've never paid for a review. However, I’ve offered my book for free (to ARCs) in exchange for one. Of the 8 that took me up on that, only 1 left a review.
I’ve also used BookSirens (again for ARCs, although my book’s published). Technically, I guess I’m paying for that, because each time someone downloads it I get charged $2. So far, 10 have downloaded it, and 2 have left reviews.
As a new author, I was experimenting with ways to get my book into the hands of readers. Going forward, I probably won’t use Book Sirens again (not worth it, IMO), and I’ll limit the free books to those people who have read the first one (because it’s a series, and offering the second one for free when they haven’t read the first seems a little odd).
* #Superman and #WonderWoman (and a whole host of other #superheroes) are #immigrants. The stance of those comics is pro-#immigration and pro-equality and acceptance. If you didn't get that, you didn't get Superman or Wonder Woman.
* #StanLee said, "#Racism and #bigotry are among the deadliest social ills plaguing. the world today." If you're bigoted or #racist, you didn't get any of the characters Stan Lee created.
* #StarTrek is about #equality for all genders, races and sexualities. As early as the mid-60s it was taking a #prochoice stance and defending #women's right to choose. (It's also anti-#capitalist and pro-#vegan). If you didn't get that, you didn't get Star Trek.
If this is what happens to a town because it refused to repeat a lie Trump told on stage for attention, people better truly understand what may happen when he loses the election.
People need to seriously understand and prepare for some serious chaos.
In 1773 the House of Common set up a committee to investigate the aftermath (not to mention the diversion of funds), and found that over £2 million—tens of billions in today's terms—had been given as "presents" to EIC employees.

Here's the second set of three images from the very close flyby of Mercury by ESA & JAXA's #BepiColombo mission last night.
As ever, it was a great pleasure & privilege to be with the mission team last night as the spacecraft made contact after the flyby & downlinked the data, to process the images you see here, & then to discuss with scientists colleagues across Europe & Japan what they show.
Liz Cheney sets the record straight on Trump's treason.
Cheney: “Actually, Doug Burgum, Trump didn’t just negotiate with terrorists, he invited the Taliban to Camp David on the anniversary of 9/11 and had his Secretary of State sign a surrender agreement with them.”
