I started reading Riot Baby by Tochi Onyebuchi. The world and character voice is incredibly immersive, even as I struggle to understand exactly what's happening. Last night, I, a middle-aged white woman, dreamed I was a young Black man pursued by police. This is an example of how stories can change the world as we know it.

I agree with your stance. But many Christians believe the world is a fallen/evil place by its nature, and so saving it is not a thing. Plus, other living beings do not have souls, so the fact that plants and animals are becoming extinct isn't really cause for alarm. God is in control. The Rapture will come. People aren't the cause of climate change, if it even exists, because people can't alter God's creation. I have this from the horse's mouth. There's no reasoning with this mindset.

@wohali @graydon I think most people would say they are against torturing children. I think there's disagreement about what constitutes "torture."

Colorado failed to support ranked choice voting, which made me sad, because I think it's the surest way out of our two-party system. I used to live in Alaska, and am very interested to see what is happening there. Do the good work!

If by any chance a Trump voter complains to you about not understanding tariffs, or not realizing other outcomes of GOP policy, don't call them an idiot (even if they are). Say something like, "I know, Fox News didn't do any coverage about any of this," and direct them to another media company with better information. We HAVE to get people to look away from the disinformation machine.

@lilithsaintcrow omg this! I guess I'm one of those educated white women who voted for Harris, and I was SO ANGRY about the blatant double standard imposed by the media and the electorate. The choice was so clear, she did an incredible job on short notice, and STILL the pundits and whiny progressives wanted more/different. wtf 🤷♀️

Enough of the backstabbing, bickering, quarterbacking, and arguing. Michelle Obama's message is: Do Something. (fun fact: MO and I have the same birthday) So I'm gonna do something. I'm a writer and book coach. I'm going to tailor my website and programs for Folks Who Aren't Fascists. My stories are going to show positive portrayals of folks who are often othered (they do this now, but I'm going to lean in). I'm going to be a safe person for folks to build their stories with. All stories matter.

One thing I am learning from all this is how truly checked out many many Americans are from politics. I would talk to people, and they would just say, "Oh I'm not involved in politics, it's not for me." I thought this was the exception, but it's proving to be the rule. People told me Kamala didn't have any plans or Trump was great for the economy. Many many people live in a very limited education bubble. We are suffering under a deep lack of education, a lack of critical thinking skills, a world where it's increasingly difficult to check facts, and a group of very rich, and very powerful individuals who know this and are using it against the common good.

@RickiTarr I agree with this, but still...all it would take is watching one Harris rally, and one Trump rally, and comparing the two. Or visiting each candidate's website. Trump's was empty, Harris's was full of information. 20 minutes on the internet would tell you all you needed to know about the two candidates. But with 1/3 of all adults not even being registered to vote...it's one of the things that makes me sad.

@eyeinhand I used to be an architect in Alaska, and had to be aware of snow behavior, and how buildings affected drifting. One of the many reasons we put buildings on pilings was to enable "scour," the wind passing beneath and clearing the drifts on the lee side of the structure. I never thought of the cosmic applications of this phenomenon.

@gwm @GottaLaff FWIW, it wasn't actually a blowout. The electoral college skews the results. Harris received 48.1% (71.8M) of the vote, Trump 50.2%, (75M) a difference of 3.2M votes. I couldn't find a number for third party, but it can't be more than 1 or 2 percent. 14.6M registered voters didn't vote. There are 244M adults of voting age, so 80M people (about 1/3) are not registered. 🤷♀️
