Here's a revolutionary idea: fail2ban, but implemented into sshd and enabled by default.
I KNOW, RIGHT?
(Seriously though, why is it not default to have some kind of rate limit on SSH? This would absolutely immediately reduce spam and malware distribution by 84%. Because it's ALWAYS the ones who don't know how to set up fail2ban that use "admin" as a password.)
@obrhoff@case2tv believe me, you do *not* want to run an email hosting business. 90% of your users are going to be spammers and you’ll have to fight *hard* to keep your IPs from being blacklisted left and right.
@obrhoff yes, establishing a new email standard in this day and age seems almost impossible, if it isn’t coming from Google. And with Google, we’re lucky that they’re still supporting IMAP. Maybe they have a chance if they add JMAP support to open source email servers like Dovecot. But I somehow doubt it even then.
@obrhoff ah! Didn’t know about that. But yeah, an open and modern alternative to IMAP would really be appreciated. I was looking into building my own version of Inbox some time ago and IMAP is just absolutely horrible!
So apparently Elmo paid some dude to pretend to be him at some online game so he can look like he’s one of the best players, then proceeds to embarrass himself not knowing the game during a live stream, and then a YouTuber called him out on it and then Elmo leaked his DMs.
@konstantin@obrhoff good summary. The switch isn’t for “gamers” or innovative new developments. It’s for casuals. If you want an innovative, folding phone, you’re not buying an iPhone.
@obrhoff definitely. I don’t think they make money from the hardware sale anyways. And it helps them tremendously to get rid of the dependence on Windows. Two birds!
