@Taweret I love Garak's takes on literature.
"The moral of The Boy Who Cried Wolf is that if you lie, people will stop believing you."
"Are you sure? I think the lesson of the story is to never tell the same lie twice."

lol, someone must have blamed my new therapist for their breakup
@robinhood Exactly, I also fantasize about designing all the IT and communications for a commune where tech works for the users.
Ah yes, the correct way to interact with a libertarian
@FrazzledBrynn @babe ... but its so simple, I have CWs disabled on my desktop but NOT my phone.
Also, my mum likes your borb and recent figurines, and I was able to not awkwardly show her the wrong photos.
Factorio is an RPG where you pretend to be a slime mold.
@snarfed.org @activitypubblueskybridge @fedidevs @fediversenews honestly, we probably need another project like #fedipact to track things like this. I don't want to keep an eye out for every scraper/indexer/bridge project, I just want to pick an instance where my admins defed and opt everyone out. As a bonus, this would place pressure on projects to be opt-in only, so they don't get blocked on sight by whole communities.
@snarfed.org @activitypubblueskybridge @fedidevs @fediversenews "Moderate people, not code"
You do not have the resources to moderate everything that will flow over this bridge, so you shouldn't do it. Your project will force this work on other instance mods.
Opt-out is unethical because people aren't aware they're being opted-in, but also because it makes this bigger and dumps more work on other instances.
No one should federate with threads for a very simple reason: they are a known entity with a horrible track record for moderation. If Facebook had always been part of fedi, they would already be widely blocked for failure to moderate bigotry and harassment, and failure to live up to the mastodon covenant or any similar fedi standards.
Federating with threads doesn't just mean more content for everyone, it means having moderation work offloaded onto fedi.
AITA for not recognizing a famous patient and making him cry?
Backstory: I run a small private practice, and as you can imagine, I am incredibly busy. I barely have time to grab fast food on my way home some nights, let alone go to the circus.
So, when a patient asked me ...
@molly0xfff Somebody on here pointed out that "MFA means it requires one thing that you can lose, and one thing that you can forget" and I keep thinking about that.
Yes, this is exactly how I remember the game.
@healyn still want one of these:
@researchfairy for all the APIs! I'm at the north pole! My only contact is Santa Claus!
I want some Oompa Loompas to sing us a song about who made what mistakes every time an instance admin flips out and the place goes down in flames.
Who is Ed Balls?
Hello, I am a very real journalist from The Washington Post, and am confused by what I am seeing. Many users have noticed Mastodon fails to exactly recreate the twitter experience, and the userbase is different.
Would any of you like to contribute a "toot" for my story? Looking for comments that:
- don't confuse me
- don't confuse my audience
- don't question my framing of anything
- are not an image of a pig with feces on his testicles, I've already seen this several times
