So nice to meet the rest of the sfba.social mod & admin team (minus one person) yesterday. And nice to be introduced to this lovely part of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. I’m honored to join a volunteer team that’s so dedicated to working together to make our instance great.
If you'd like to help us keep the servers running (and your finances allow), please drop us a few dollars on KoFii. https://ko-fi.com/sfba_fedi

“Spain will legalise about 300,000 undocumented immigrants per year over the next three years as it seeks to expand its labour force in the face of an ageing population, Migration Minister Elma Saiz told reporters.”
“’Spain has to opt between being an open, prosperous country or being a closed and poor one, and we have chosen the former,’ Saiz said.”
"Spain's economy is the fastest-growing in the EU."
"Plans by Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta to build an AI data center in the US that runs on nuclear power were thwarted in part because a rare species of bee was discovered on land earmarked for the project, according to people familiar with the matter."
I had no idea that North Carolina allows spouses to share a voting booth. Both must consent to that, but of course an abused (or otherwise scared or intimidated) spouse isn't going to complain.
Tennessee update: While the emergency vet only found a slight fever & not much else (based on an exam, not lab work or X-rays) and gave him fluids & anti-nausea meds, he's still not eating & still hiding out.
Thankfully, his great local VCA vet is in today; I dropped him off so she can fit him in, between appointments. (There are no appointments left today.) Spoke to her as I was doing the drop-off, too.
He *did* have enough energy to resist getting into the cat carrier.
Please don’t buy your shipping supplies from Uline. Our cats will be just as happy with boxes from another company — one whose profits aren’t spent funding election deniers and fighting against unions, abortion rights and marijuana legalization.
As someone who doesn’t see ads (no TV, no Facebook & such, ad blocker firmly in place) and is not in a swing state, I had no idea the ads elsewhere were so transphobic:
I can only begin to imagine how scary this must be for all the trans folks out there. And all of us who care about them are horrified, too. I sure hope our votes show that we support the trans community wholeheartedly.
Given all the Wordpress to-do (plus ongoing issues with WPEngine), I'm planning on moving my small, very simple static website off Wordpress and instead using something like Blocs to create my site. (Thanks to @sindarina for identifying this as a possible fit for me.)
Now I need to identify a hosting company. I'm looking for good, not cheap. Reliable. Good customer support for the rare times I need it. Probably US-based. Any suggestions?
