I have a story from #NotACon

I rode my bike to the event; nine miles through an autumnal New York state.

The hotel didn't have any bike parking when I arrived. My poor bike was left in massive car parking structure.

Yeah, pretty much.

But both are misaligned economics.

Proprietary is far to easy to extort money and ignore user's actual needs.

And Free Software is far too hard to earn money so most work is volunteer and doesn't have any duty to pay attention to user's needs.

We need to fix this by inviting users into contributing to projects. Making that possible to do at all is very new.

Compiling without assistance from bug wranglers, doc writers and designers is like trying to do a DnD campaign called "woops all rouges"

The impact of Nathan Lee, Suv and now Krlr on inkscape's development has been monumental. None are developers, all kept the issues tracker producing actionable and detailed reports. But all were volunteers.

The ecological failure in foss can be solved, but not with dichotomised economics. Who pays matters. Who says matters.

This is kind of what #journalists and other #celebrities kind of look like when exiting #twitter/#xitter without understanding what went wrong with the billionaire funded social media nonsense.

The US is not exactly one country. It's more like 50 waring states bolted together by a fairly thin federal system. Europeans would be surprised at how much the fed doesn't actually control and what is done is controlled by proxy.

Regardless. The first past the post system in both the US and UK create a "loudest mouth wins" system, which makes it appear like the countries are rabidly crazy. But they're actually just subjugated non-democracies.

It's because Proprietary software's entire organisational principle is to carve out incompatible monopoly fiefdoms free from government oversights and market forces.

People think open source is some hippie commune thing, but it's really not. It hews far closer to free trade open markets where you can pick and choose your support separate from your supplier at every level.

It's difficult to make a living doing open source, but it's fair to the consumer.

@brunus ah then may i recommend the inkscape stable ppa, or the appimage. No need to snap on debian, better options are available. :awesome:
