@doctormo @log @Adam_Cadmon1 and the lack of paperwork was because the state body responsible for looking after those records chose to shred them

That is entirely contrary to the spirit of the right to asylum. I get that colonizers are getting some political fatigue from the people whose lives they remotely made shitty actually making the trip to show up on their doorsteps, but isn't the best solution there to *not* export shittiness to people you don't want as your new neighbors?
England in particular needs to offer *all* the asylum.

Go have a look at the windrush scandals. Folk *invited* from the colonies to work in post war britain sent "home" to die on the streets of some nation they don't know any more because of a lack of paperwork.

Adam F. Lawton (adam_cadmon1@mastodon.online)'s status on Friday, 17-Nov-2023 06:40:17 JST Adam F. Lawton Surprisingly (not so surprisingly) not a whole lot of big outlet coverage of that whole Rwanda thing. When I heard it, I just assumed they were going to be returning Rwandans...but no, no its so much worse. Even if you weren't from Africa, the UK was gonna send you to Rwanda to have your immigration status processed.
But it was all on the up and up, though, totally not racist.
