@phiofx I think it’s a matter of perspective and not a once in our life event. You describe the creation of very new technologies (Rust is only 8 years old, wasm 6, kotlin and julia 12). C++ first appeared 39 years ago. As new tech matures there will be new challengers.
@thomasfuchs That a different problem (and I agree, it’s a net negative for learning). But your initial claim was that LLMs are not actually useful. My counter-argument to that is Github Copilot, which I think is really useful. There are many examples of not actually useful LLMs, of course.
@thomasfuchs Eh, in general I agree, but Github Copilot is really useful (not just, only completion engine). That is setting aside the ethical concerns, and I’m only talking about the technological usefulness.
@thomasfuchs@graydon We lost. People think it’s not affecting them. If it does, it’s something else. If someone dies of covid in their circles, it’s the vaccines to blame. If someone dies of anything else suddenly, it’s again the vaccine’s fault. No amount of data and rational reasoning will get to them.
