In this case, the best "proof" that this is an AI generated image was doing a reverse image search and finding the uncropped original on Imgur.

With the pizza box and Monster energy drink cans visible, it's a lot more obvious that the image isn't legit. But what happens when somebody crops out any inconvenient "tells" BEFORE a fake "photo" is ever posted to begin with?

I'm not CW'ing this, because this isn't actually about politics: it's about #AI.

Somebody spun up this image for a quick meme. It's not a high-intensity effort, it's a shitpost. And it's convincing enough that you know, and I know, that we ALL know, an awful lot of people are going to think it's a real photo of these two.

Does it matter if people think this *particular* shitposted image is legit? No. But stand by for even the shittiest disinformation efforts to get a LOT more convincing.

@killyourfm it was the only thing that worked for me, when my lower back began stiffening and hurting so badly it took me a minute to stand all the way erect when getting out of an office chair, close to ten years ago now.

Turned out, it wasn't my back at all. It was my TFLs (a stringy muscle running down the outside of the thigh) refusing to release, which my erectors had to fight--and TFLs are bigger and stronger than erectors, so.

@killyourfm nothing worked, until I found this one therapist who said "I know how to fix this, and it's not your back. But it's going to HURT."

It felt like being turned over to the women of an enemy tribe for torture. She worked on me for FOUR HOURS STRAIGHT. I very literally laughed through tears of pain because it was either that or sob, but I was like you know what, I expect my clients to trust ME, and I'm HER client, so we'll find out.

I literally BOUNCED off that damn table. Amazing.

One of my favorite metrics for how well I'm doing as an IT provider is just how fucked my clients' application vendors think they are, when those applications take a shit after a bad upgrade.

I have yet to have a vendor be like "can you just roll back, please?" It's always more like "oh god. I hope you have backups. I hope the backups will restore. Oh fuck."

@killyourfm @JoeRess I've been getting better and better at packing the various storage options (under seat, luggage box, my backpack) on my motorcycle. It feels like unloading a clown car when I get home with a couple hundred bucks worth of groceries! 😅

@gamingonlinux @killyourfm even if you want to raise objections about not a Windows device, you absolutely CAN rock a Deck as a Windows device. When it launched, a lot of people did exactly that, reflexively, before everybody figured out "this thing is actually great the way it ships."

@killyourfm another thing I'll point out: "we didn't have benchmarks on hand from similar classes of device" is no excuse. When I had the same issue, I would source widely available benchmarks to put against my own direct benchmarks of the device under test, and cite the sources I pulled from.

@killyourfm I got yelled at by angry turbo gamers a couple of times when I did exactly that while I was at Ars. But it isn't exactly difficult to get yourself yelled at by turbo gamers, IME...

@killyourfm personally, I'd have benched it against *both*, with text explaining that the laptop was a bit of a joker, but was included to demonstrate the discrepancy between classes of device.

I used to do the same thing with laptop CPUs and GPUs vs their desktop counterparts, because so many people have absolutely no idea that a laptop i7 is so much slower than a desktop i7, a laptop RTX is so much slower than a desktop RTX, etc.

But yeah, the chart you linked here is wack af.

@killyourfm 4K just isn't worth it at this stage of tech, IMO. I've always been a fan of consistent frame rate (and not cooking an entire room) over running the highest rez possible.

This also triggered a rebrand of the Model 3 Performance, which is now "Scooty Puff Sr: The Doom-Bringer."

I don't think that magnet is gonna stay in place for long, though. Probably gonna have to swap that out for another transparent sticker on the rear glass.
