Story time: Last week I injured my lower back to the point where simply standing and walking has been extremely painful.

Constantly shoving CBD pills down my throat barely eases the pain. External CBD salve? Nothing. Heating pad? Nope. Ibuprofen? Nope.

But less than 15 minutes in these hot springs, and I was able to not only stand up without excruciating pain, but easily walk around and even hike short distances.

It felt like magic. Nature heals. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise.

@killyourfm probably not really available where you are right now, but deep tissue massage would very likely work also.

of course, it hurts a HELL of a lot more than the hot springs, for anything short of "almost literally boiling"...

@jimsalter My friend barely grazed the spot with her hand and it hurt like hell. ANY amount of pressure against it is painful, so I have to nope right out of a deep tissue massage! (But I appreciate the recommendations all the same)

@killyourfm nothing worked, until I found this one therapist who said "I know how to fix this, and it's not your back. But it's going to HURT."

It felt like being turned over to the women of an enemy tribe for torture. She worked on me for FOUR HOURS STRAIGHT. I very literally laughed through tears of pain because it was either that or sob, but I was like you know what, I expect my clients to trust ME, and I'm HER client, so we'll find out.

I literally BOUNCED off that damn table. Amazing.

@killyourfm it was the only thing that worked for me, when my lower back began stiffening and hurting so badly it took me a minute to stand all the way erect when getting out of an office chair, close to ten years ago now.

Turned out, it wasn't my back at all. It was my TFLs (a stringy muscle running down the outside of the thigh) refusing to release, which my erectors had to fight--and TFLs are bigger and stronger than erectors, so.

@alisynthesis @jimsalter It is INDEED lame and enigmatic! Especially when you can't figure out what event caused the pain to begin with.

I hiked for a month straight earlier this year, much of it technical, with elevation, etc. Zero injuries.

But way too frequently I'll just stand up normally, or barely twist in a chair and ZAP! Down for the count.

@killyourfm @jimsalter that said, lower back pain is SO enigmatic and personal. And lame. Did I mention lame?

@killyourfm @jimsalter I had a similar experience, but I did myofascial release instead of deep tissue massage. I thought it was going to be bogus, but it was shockingly effective. They released a crazy amount of tension in my hips and thighs, and it pretty much fixed my back. and weirdly, my extreme jaw tension. (Now I keep up with my stretching and that mostly keeps the wolves at the door.)

And being immersed in hot water is definitely excellent. Especially in a hot spring. 🙂
