Då "fitness-appar" varit på tapeten "ganska länge" (t ex när amerikansk militärs närvaro kunde påvisas "där det inte skulle finnas någon"), hur f-n kan memot inte nått SÄPO? 🤔 WTF?! Jag har säkert missat något... 😑🇸🇪

It'd be interesting to track US prices for 50-100 items from January 1 2025 to December 31 2025; like smartphones, US made cars, imported cars, laptops, US made beer, imported beer, general groceries, gasoline and diesel 🧐
At the same time also tracking US unemployment and the stock exchange.
I mean, we all know these numbers will look great! It'll probably be the best numbers we've ever seen. Because. You know ... 😑

I need a translation, from "Engrish" to "English", please ... 🤔🥸 It's like a never ending stream of sewage, of horseshit ... I'm thinking this is some sort of strategy ... talk rubbish for as long as possible so that people just fall asleep.
I can't wait for the fact check on this one 😑

@nafmo That may be an insult, to the toddler ... 🤔
@GossiTheDog "Mastodon" really needs to get cracking on full data portability, IMHO.
It's a shame this hasn't been pushed higher up on the list of things to do.
I think many people have invested quite a bit of time and effort into their posts and profiles, and moving all that data, or somehow managing a switch-over doesn't seem to be that simple, if at all possible.
Reading this really makes me realize how important education is. For everyone 🤔🧐 And it's not just the comment about "illegal border crossings". I'm not all that surprised that there are, shall we say, "issues".

I think you should look up "FidoNet" 😊
Granted, it was "distributed" and not "Federated", but if you compare technologies available at the time, I think you'll find similarities there too.
Regardless, we're moving in a good direction!
@heiglandreas I didn't do that part, I'm just looking at the output, which is what I need to be correct.
But @thanius and @lpwaterhouse may be onto something here.
Maybe I'll just stick to transliteration then. I'm probably overworking the code, but I hate to leave thing to "chance" when I develop.
The data is stored in an SQL database. I've started to encrypt the (sensitive parts of) data at rest. So I need to do in-memory comparisons and sorting.
Normally, I would compare w/all umlauts, etc, but in this particular case, I want to get a match on "vårsol" when I'm searching for "vårsol" or "varsol". And this matching is, after decryption, done in the application layer.
(And I don't want to use specific database functionality to handle all this.)
Yes, transliteration is the way to go in this case, which is what I'm doing now.
Thanks for all the advice, and pointers in the right direction.
Why does this PHP construct:
normalizer_normalize( $search_string, \Normalizer::FORM_D );
Convert ÖÖÖ to OOO, but keeps ÅÅÅ as ÅÅÅ ... WTF?! 🤔
@tomjennings I think everyone doing "coding" (not assembling and pulling copies of repos into their stuff) these days would benefit from a two week course, where they get to hang out with some "old-timer" and do some actual coding!
@tomjennings Doesn't ftsc.org work?
@tomjennings Hmm... I should create a Github repo for these, or mirror them on defsol.com 🤔
I'm not done yet, but it's a start. I can't be bother to automate it for this one-off 😉

I've always said that "IT" (whatever that means to you) follows an interesting cyclic sinus-like wave. Some people who see the beginning of a curve and then experience a shift away from trends, quite often also see a "return to base" of sorts.
The Fediverse reminds me quite a bit about what we did in FidoNet "back in the days", but using the Internet as a bearer, which obviously opens up possibilities.
