Really interesting hearing Gagarin talking through an interpreter about being the first man in space. I do wonder if he had to be careful of what he said because of the soviet government and whatnot. 1961: Yuri Gagarin - the First Spaceman Visits Britain | BBC Archive - YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pHZ519R51X8
I think the most valuable thing I learnt in reception class in primary school is the "30 days have September, April, June and November" rhyme. Thanks Mrs Pickles if you're still around.
I am really tired of UK blind societies treating Meta glasses as this new wonder technology because they have an llm on-tap. They make it sound like it's completely infallible and can't get anything wrong. I just saw a post that sounds like someone was presented with a pair in a special ceremony.
This weekend I will be playing in this year's UK national showdown tournament. Showdown is a sport invented by blind people which is kind of like air hockey but also it's own thing. I'll be representing my own showdown club (bury Aces). I say this every time but it still feels weird that I do things now like play in sport competitions and even have my own club.
You know I miss the days when your documents folder in your user folder was actually for documents, not a dumping ground for software config files and whatever else.
@yatil I'm pretty sure I've said the same fairly recently, forgetting about the DOM, and I use the things. Wonder when they stopped looking at the html. I remember using JAWS 3.2 which had a reformat page command, which did things with the code including inserting the word "link" before each link. Those were the bad old days.
So many gear reviews these days with titles ending similar to "is it the right thing for you in <current year>"? that are probably AI slop. I'd love someone to do a spoof article; something like Piano: the right instrument for you in 2026?
Yet again I wish the blind activists were on Fedi because they write a lot of stuff I think a lot of the sighted people on here should read. But here isn't where the majority of eyeballs are. If it was an ideal utopian society they'd all be here but it's not.
Kara reviews short videos number 3959: "Fake courtesy machine": loud typing noises layered on top of each other for 30 seconds or so. I assume something is written on screen, probably fotilfeieeieigkqww for all I know. And that's probably internet slang for something anyway.
Watching The Dark Night Rises. It always amazes me how good Christian Bale's American accent is. I can't hear any trace of a Welsh accent in it at all. I say that then I think I heard him use a glottal stop in "getting".
American English Eloquence but differentiating between d and t in the middle of words. This brought to you by me hearing the word riding as writing in a post because they sound the bloody same.
Today I learnt that goulash is known as pörkölt in Hungary. gulyás, which sounds like goulash according to iOS' Hungarian voice is a meat soup. I also learnt that paprika is Hungarian.
I'll never get tired of the sighted people (and OCR engines) who don't realise they're typing the short form of Alan instead of the abbreviation for artificial intelligence. A lot of people hate poor Al for some reason.
The most recent one, I apparently have never heard of the Celesta, an instrument I wanted to see since getting a general midi keyboard in I think 1993.
Quite surprised in a way that I've not heard much on here about Artemis 2. I suppose though if it was someone flying to the moon using a rocket they built from stuff bought from the local DIY shop and running software they coded on a Raspberry Pi, it would be talked about more here.
