Mostly done building this woodshed, which was made from reused wood (except the posts).
Should hold 2 cords of wood, which is what I use in 2 years.
And it threads comments on posts. Including deep threading and collapse/expand of sub-conversations. This makes me much more likely to dig into conversations.
And it bundles notifications together with some nice interface. And there are many other interface touches. Also page down scrolls properly (except in multi-column mode which is a bit janky, but which it does have, and which makes the columns nice and wide).
I think the main thing about Phanpy is that it's designed in lots of ways to display enough information to scan quickly, but invites clicking to dig into things. I find myself clicking more than I scroll.
amazed at phanpy.social's transformation of the mastodon web interface
I don't understand why, but somehow usenet news readers keep coming to mind as I use it. (This is a complement.)
It does thread posts in the timeline. No more reading threads in reverse order. Also indicates when a boosted post is part of a thread.
@gnomicutterance @erebion @clacke @leyrer can confirm. 3 times a year MS blocks for no reason and unblocks when I escalate to my VPS hosting provider.
I am going to just recipercate and bounce all mail I receive from them though.
ordered 2 pairs of pants and received 4 pairs, including two others I'd deleted from the shopping cart earlier (was not charged extra, although they now seem to think the price was NaN)
was typing in alacritty and firefox popped up a notification, which seems to have eaten a key release event, so the terminal displayed a repeating dddddddddd until I pressed and released the key again
glad that the entire rest of my workflow is still offline capable. cached so much data to take home
Was just filing a bug report on broken customised scrollbars, as one does $infinitely now and couldn't help but notice how bad github's UI for attaching files is
There is no visual indication of how to select a file to upload except to mouse over "selecting" and notice that the mouse pointer changes.
Computer UI has officially never been so bad as it is today. Congrats all around I suppose.
@technomancy down arrow defaults to scrolling a post at a time, which can cut off the middle of posts of certain length. (A problem the mastodon interface also has.)
but pinafore does have a pref to disable that!
@technomancy any way to disable pinafore's pencil icon that appears over top of text I am trying to read having just paged down? If so I might switch.
(Adblock of it didn't persist.)
@technomancy ah, pinafore with disable all hotkeys you mean
I sucked it up and got in the habit of two finger scrolling... Then it turned out my new thinkpad's trackpad is very bad at telling the difference between 2 and 3 fingers.
Astonishing how bad mastodon's web interface is at scrolling.
The shown example is only one of many ways it messes up.
The only scrolling method that works without such glitches is mouse wheel/drag style.
Correct behavior for this is *built into the web browser*. They had to go out of their way to break it.
@cwebber @hisham_hm similarly jed (John E Davis)
Probably more of us should name things like this
@spacehobo yeah, I mean they're not violating any license here, just common sense and good taste
They even documented how they generated it. Why write such documentation when you can write a shell script?!
@freddy I'm looking at the tree apt-get source firefox unpacks
