Trying out Sailfish OS today. My first interaction was debugging the flashing script and then giving up and writing my own.

Way too complex, variables are things like $1 and $2 and $3 for functions, it is very hard to completely understand.

My own script is much simpler.

Oh, please. Don't force me to set up a screen lock and then tell me the PIN is too short.

This device will only be used for playing around with, I will not store sensitiive data on it. I just want to try the UI. I don't need a screen lock.

The UI is good, but really not what I'd choose.

I just don't like gestured based... anything.

Just give me buttons I can tap.

But that's not critique of Sailfish OS, I know that they have a different philosophy. And I'm not really that interested in the UI, but in opening a shell and playing around there.

It's got BUILTIN XMPP SUPPORT! \o/

Account settings just let me add an account. Neat.

This phone would do pretty much everything I need a phone to do out of the box. Just need to add a railway connection app.

We need to get large enough to be unable to ignore at some point.

First they tried shoving a ticket app for public transport down my throat, now bank wants to replace 2FA with an app that just does not have a 2nd factor.

I will not take your trash. I don't want your tracking, I don't want Google, Microsoft or Apple to know everything I do.

Just imagine Stasi in Eastern Germany had had all that!

I want a Firefox AddOn that replaces "the AI" with "the hallucinations of a computer program".

@clacke @leyrer Actually, I want to find out what's really true. So far sending works, now I just need to implement receiving and change some DNS records.

I'll gladly take advice about common hurdles and pitfalls and also links where people talk about this.

I later want to document how to set it all up in a simple way, without an overly complicated setup.
