@Mer__edith do you folks have any plans for allowing signal to operate without the need for phone numbers, or for folks to be able to run more than one account from a mobile device?
@Haste@LinuxAndYarn its 2023 and we have a brand new social media network that doesnt have a "no racism / no nazis" policy.
we may as well be banging rocks together.
also orgs that intentionally choose to not to have those policies are really saying "we're okay if we become the nazi bar. their money is just as green as anybody elses"
@Haste@LinuxAndYarn its interesting - i just went to have a look and i dont see any of that sorta boycotting happening. the lewds feed appears to be the sorta typical stream of "here are my parts, internet, now give me validation" as they normally are. im not suggesting it isnt happening, just that i havent seen it yet
@NosirrahSec@horse@Lee_Holmes i used to go on and on about how 'security has no barrier to entry and random homeless people, tumbleweeds and raccoons keep showing up here and somehow labeling themselves experts and cisos', but then there were so many of them they ganged up on me.
so i just quit saying stuff and now i just watch shit catch fire and keep my mouth shut.
@Lee_Holmes@horse i guess the big difference here is that in linux most 'poorly written shell scripts' use echo to print stuff to the screen, and its hard to mix up 'echo' with 'print to a tty', but with powershell theres several ways and you dont know youve used the wrong one til its too late, heh
if you want people to know something, dont put it in goverment compliance documentation. instead, make it plain english, easy to grok, and if you can make it fun or entertaining in some way.
@horse@Lee_Holmes when i posted about the whole 'microsoft has said rotating pastwords on a schedule is obsolete. stop doing it' thing, 99% of responders were like WHOA WAIT WHAT? and like 10 angry greybeards were like BUT NIST SAID THAT SHIT IN 2016!
it ended up just being a giant public measure of "who actually reads nist documentation", to which the answer was "something like 1 percent of folks".
