@MelissaBenyon @thomholwerda @Strandjunker yep, and they profited after the war too as they were not prosecuted for being good citizens (different from being a good person). Instead they got better jobs, better contracts etc. from those who resisted.

Even more so than those who gave their life in the name of freedom.

@thomholwerda @Strandjunker and in France they relied on rewards for giving up your neighbour. By putting the population in financial ruin, they could easily tempt people with an extra week of pay (or food), for the name/address of someone who disagrees with the government.

@obrhoff I spent a little on Instagram back in the day.
I think it was only $300, I didn’t see a blip. Which isn’t really a surprise as all the reading I had done suggested a few thousand minimum.

However, I did get a troll commenting on the ad asking what my opinion was on some dumb right-wing shit.

Unfortunately I don’t have the required budget (and capacity to deal with shit) for ads.

Funnily enough, I did a LinkedIn post and that saw 50-100 sales. But that was around 2018

@obrhoff I feel like it’s the general capitalist situation. WE must praise efficiency above or else, even as we lose our jobs. Efficiency is progress.
However, when another power achieves better efficiency we must panic and boycott/war. Their efficiency is meaningless and/or threatening OUR livelihoods.

Empires fought over trade routes, forcing trade route changes (sea over land, longer routes over canals, canals over longer routes as they change hands) etc.

Question for anyone, but especially visually-impaired people, who use screen readers regularly, or who has researched the topic before. What would be the best way for a program to integrate with your software? I'm working on a visual novel, and I was thinking of dumping the current on-screen text into a text file somewhere, but I'm not sure if that would work. Any ideas? #gamedev

@evan I think I’m suffering from not understanding the context of the question.

I like seeing other perspectives. But I’m engaging with people around shared interests. But in neither case would I consider that seeking differing opinions.

    Perhaps that’s my answer though?

@phiofx I’ve been thinking about this too! Sort of like a ‘quote reply’ for forums. Your reply is actually the first post in a new thread, but has a link to the previous.

    Is that what you mean?

@devnull @expert @luceos @nodebb @multiverseofbadness So many links to look at! It’s interested that they are all taking a different approach to how I imagined it would go.

In my head any post on here should be able to be a forum post too. I need to figure out a way of explaining it better.

Thanks folks! I really hope 2024 is the return of the forum

What would a fediverse forum look like to you?

I know there are some out there, but I'm getting mixed signals about whether it's working or not. Anyone tried them?

Being very used to my Mastodon feed now makes it very evident how ad-heavy other platforms are.

It’s refreshing to only see posts that I made a conscious effort to see. And it’s bonkers that it’s a rare concept.
