Asking to the indie devs on Mastodon. Are you spending money on ads? (AppStore, Instagram etc.).
If yes, is it worth it and how much budget do you spend? (please boost, I'm really interested)

@helge Idk. I see regulary ads on Instagram from indie apps such as @frederik
@obrhoff No, I’ve played with that for years and it never made any meaningful difference.
I think for Indies specifically themselves are the best promotion.
@helge @frederik
@leroy Thats why I'm surprised seeing indie devs spending money on Instagram ads.
I got told, I should at least spend 15k€ only to figure out how to target people.
@obrhoff I spent a little on Instagram back in the day.
I think it was only $300, I didn’t see a blip. Which isn’t really a surprise as all the reading I had done suggested a few thousand minimum.
However, I did get a troll commenting on the ad asking what my opinion was on some dumb right-wing shit.
Unfortunately I don’t have the required budget (and capacity to deal with shit) for ads.
Funnily enough, I did a LinkedIn post and that saw 50-100 sales. But that was around 2018
@cdfinder Print ads are kinda wild but weirdly cool.
I did try some online and print advertising for my #NeoFinder during the last 25 years, but it never really did anything.
Word of mouth and happy customers are better than ads for #IndieDevs
