@rolle Even more ironically, I've seen people talk about that on Mastodon.

I don't think having Twitter or Meta staff should automatically be a problem. It depends a lot on their role, whether they're still there and so on. I doubt most Meta employees agree with that the bosses are doing, and probably have no say on it. They do bring in valuable experience on how to develop a social network, however.

Games back then were not bug free, you were just stuck with a broken game if it didn't work on your specific system.
A lot of games that exist now, would not have any chance under that ecosystem. No Minecraft, no BG3, probably not even Elden Ring. Many others would be much simpler, because a lot more effort would be spent on mitigating risk.

Managed to port my latest #7drl #roguelike
(C + BearLibTerminal) to #linuxI didn't take too long, considering I had not thought about porting or cross-platform stuff at all when developing *and* had to learn a bunch of gcc and vs codium stuff on the side.

I originally made it with MSVC but I do like gcc better, especially with gdb and address sanitizer (not sure if anything similar exists for MSVC)

Funny how, for most people, it’s a no-brainer to accept that a perpetual motion machine is impossible, but at the same time completely incomprehensible that a perpetual growth system is as much against the same laws of physics.

So Macquarie chose @pluralistic #enshittification as their word of the year last week and now Oxford chose "brain rot."
I can't help but feel there are two very different perspectives at play here: while "enshittification" correctly points the finger at the source (i.e. the services that are shittified), "brain rot" places the blame solely on the consumer, who "overconsumes material considered to be trivial or unchallenging" that just seems to somehow magically appear on their feeds.

People defend #capitalism by saying “who takes the risk should reap the rewards” but really it’s who is ABLE to take the risk, and more risks you can afford, the more possibilities for rewards (and thus risks) you have.
Doesn’t sound so justified when you frame it the way it is.
