As I get older, I'm much more inclined to believe that most people are primarily a thin veneer of rationality on top of a vast ocean of animal, irrational behaviors and urges.
And society is basically sandpaper.
I should have realized this earlier, but I guess I read too much science fiction as a kid and had a higher opinion of humans.

A suggestion for those folks looking for things to filter: be aware that screenshotted posts containing filtered terms won't get caught by your filters as far as I can tell (q: this seems to be the case even if #alttext is included with the image?).
Might choose to mute the poster in that case. If someone's got a different suggestion that's less...<whatever?>...I'd love to hear it. Filters, muting, and blocking are really important tools and anything that would help people use them well is most definitely welcome.
