My dad was tortured by the Gestapo for 4 days and thrown in a concentration camp for being in the Norwegian Resistance. Growing up, he would tell me things he learned in the Resistance. I thought, I'm never going to need this stuff. Here's some of those things.
The next night the Klan was on our yard, trying to burn a cross. Until my daddy and his brother--who saw D-Day, Market Garden, Bastogne & Dauchau-- walked out with long guns. A couple days later I was walking home from 1st grade when Klan goons in a pick up started pacing me, calling me and my daddy every kind of name.
In the early 1960s my father was both the deputy sheriff and the fire chief of a tiny rural town in Arkansas. The first day he was in his equally tiny office above the general store, the Kleagle from the local Klan came in and told him "You get any Black boys or Freedom Riders in here, you call us first." My father's response was "I don't take orders from Whyte Trash."
When I got home I was in hysterics. Once my mother calmed me down and got the story out of me she called her father--the VP of the local bank. And he pulled every loan of every Klansman he knew of in the county. They left my family alone after that This is what I see when I look at MAGA.

"Around 4400 years ago, an enormous feast was held in a monumental structure for thousands of people. When they finished, they stacked up the bones of the 400 cattle they'd just eaten around the building, pushed in the walls and roof, and covered it up. And left. And we have no idea why."
"People might bring up Vincent van Gogh as an example of a painter who did great work in spite of—or because of—his suffering. I like to think that van Gogh would have been even more prolific and even greater if he wasn’t so restricted by the things tormenting him. I don’t think it was pain that made him so great—I think his painting brought him whatever happiness he had.” ― David Lynch
Like if when a house is on fire, both the firefighters and the people caught in the burning building have to fill out forms before anything can be done.
And those in charge of approving the forms make more money depending on how little water is used in firefighting, how few ladders are used by the firefighters, and how few tires are used on firetrucks.
Nope, gold has value from actually being useful (not just shiny). (Doesn't mean one should base gov't currency on it of course.) Doesn't rust! Doesn't rot! If gold were very common, it would be widely used in everyday electronics and plumbing.
Has science ever explained why 1970s colors were like this? Maybe some weird solar flares in the 1970s changed light spectrum reaching Earth, so people thought those colors looked good together? Or was it because everything was filtered through so much nicotine haze and leaded gasoline fumes?
