@liztai I’m so much happier in Cdrama-land. I think it was Game of Thrones that began my disenchantment with western series. It seemed like they were using graphic violence and nudity to fish for viewers rather than tell a good story. Effects need to be motivated by plot and character, not just piled on because it sells subscriptions to a streaming service.

@Katztronaut @liztai Exactly 🙄 and at some point all bodies just look the same and the violence seems gratuitous. If other people like that, then they can watch it but I got tired of it and moved to #Cdrama 🌸

@liztai Wow! You have history 😄 I fell down the rabbit hole during the corona pandemic so that would be about 2020? I had become disenchanted with western series on American streaming services and was looking for something different…

#Kdrama doesn’t quite work for me because of my adoption hang up, which has more to do with me than with the quality of the dramas, I think.

I like some #Jdramas, too, but mainly like #Cdrama.

No logic, really 😃

Just finished “Will Love in Spring” 🌸 It was a beautifully realistic depiction of two traumatized people, trying to make a long-distance relationship work. The female lead was immature and selfish, though, and had to do some growing up before they could have a future together.

@liztai I actually surprised that you liked the drama. I’m actually OK with sad endings if they are earned. I didn’t even mind the way Pearl Eclipse ended 😄

It would have been all wrong if they had suddenly found another antidote and they lived happily ever after. On reflection, I think a major theme is the personal price that is paid for political power. The emperor loses Zigu, Murong Xuanlie loses both his love and life, Yue Qin loses his love and his sister …

Just finished “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 This is such a good drama! The ending was delicately done with sweetness + sadness interwoven in a way that resonates. The standout performance is Liu Xueyi, who gives his character depth and humility but so many of the other actors had roles that allowed them to give nuance to both their roles + the drama.

Can definitely recommend!

@liztai Sadly, I’m watching “Kill Me Love Me” far too slowly but it is turning into such a good drama. I thought it would be a melodramatic piece, but is has shown depth in many aspects: character development, actor skills, side couples, court intrigue, power struggles and beautiful costumes.

@AnnaAnthro His acting has a sense of realism that sometimes can be lost in thes costume dramas. This scene was particularly gut-wrenching.

Am watching episode 13 of “Kill Me Love Me” 🌸 The drama has developed into a more psychological drama and away from the more melodramatic aspects. This scene by the river where Murong Jinghe has been bitten by a snake and is reliving his war wounds from his time as a general is gripping.

@liztai @Katztronaut @AnnaAnthro It’s good to have an idea of what you like 😃 I go with the flow and sometimes I check my brain at the door.

That said, I’m liking “Kill Me Love Me” much more than I thought I would at the beginning. It started off in full melodrama mode, but it has settled into something much better. Liu Xueyi has really come into his own in 2024. Hope he will be offered good parts in the future.

@AnnaAnthro @liztai At least the white fox is cute! Am I seeing things or have they tried to style Liu Xueyi a little like Cheng Yi? They are very different actors so what works for one doesn’t necessarily work for someone else. It is especially the contouring on his cheekbones that seems to mimic Cheng Yi’s look.
