Ok I need to put a KDE, noob friendly distro on my wife's aging Surface Laptop. I was thinking Mint but it doesn't come with KDE? Looking at EndeavorOS but it might be too Arch-y?

@a1ba Asus should put little actuators on the antennas next. Slowly opening and closing.

My (tiny) weekend project was hanging the ugly spider contraption to the wall so the cat wouldn't sleep on it anymore. He is understandably disappointed.

@fesshole I doubt the people who clean these rooms give a toss about that and bother reporting it.

@gamingonlinux I agree it's odd. I'm told this is known they're working on it.

@gamingonlinux I see the Steam Deck Beta Client updates are getting posted to the main feed, I'm not sure that's intentional there.

@gamingonlinux my understanding is that the Steam beta client updates should get posted to https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SteamClientBeta/announcements ?

@eniko my grandma made "kefir" all the time. It was fizzy and did not have milk. I only found decades later that it was actually kombucha, and kefir is something else entirely :)

@gamingonlinux thanks. That may be worth treating as a bug in the Steam client, where it should just fallback to Proton.
Trying to have better messaging and warning in the partner interface is another avenue. I think a lot of developers don't even realize that "Linux Desktop" exists as a gaming platform.

@gamingonlinux if the only depot for a title on a Linux Desktop is a Windows depot, then Steam should already be picking Proton.
What is the typical failure pattern here? Surely all devs upload at least one Windows depot..
Are they uploading a Linux native build to it's own depot, and flagging it Steam Deck only, is that the main occurrence of this?
But as I said, the Proton version should get picked in this case.

@gamingonlinux it already says 'SteamDeck only', while the real platform select for the depot is in the 'Operating System' drop down. Do you have suggestions how we could make this clearer?

@a1ba most interesting! And I assume there is no good version of this in quake 1 either? But it can be found in common code?

@a1ba the quake 3 code had a lot of goofy stuff and sharp edges, when id passed it over to me I spent the first few months cleaning up compiler warnings.
It was a good way to familiarize with it, but I don't remember running into this.

@a1ba so someone goofed of course, but maybe the original version was meant to either close stdout (redirect to /dev/null), or put stdin into non blocking to essentially make a console out of your terminal.

Trying to write additional git changes on top of applied quilt patches with the hope to be able to just get your git changes back later on is pretty hopeless .. don't try it.
