Things that work for me: clean an item; read history of abolitionism in the U.S.; look at art; read a mystery; walk or hike; stretch; draw. These don’t always work. I experiment to see what makes me stronger. I allow myself to slowly absorb the implications of the election results, including the encouraging ones. As I do, I gain clarity and resolve. 4/
Defeating fascism has never been easy. Nor has building and implementing a pluralist constitutional democracy. These are large, demanding projects. We aren’t going to resolve them today. We have to begin, in whatever small ways we can, to prepare ourselves to turn back to these projects with as much strength and courage as we can muster. That’s something to do today: small things that help you feel stronger. You may not know what to do. Try things. 3/
The limbo is challenging. It makes it easier for fear, anger, anxiety, and even despair to swamp us. So until I can better see the precise political situation we face and begin to plan and take action accordingly, I am going to get outside as much as I can, rest as much as I can, and read as much as I can. That is the antidote to the limbo. 3/3
During the next phase of this relatively cold civil war, our strategy and tactics will be shaped by the final results in all the 2024 elections - state and local as well as federal. We can’t assess what we should focus on until we have definitive final results. My personal plan for the remainder of the week is to use all my skills to stay clear-eyed, alert, and emotionally grounded. That way I will be sharper when we have firm results. 2/
The U.S. has been in a relatively cold civil war since 2008. This is why every election cycle from then until now feels exhausting. We are not engaged in mere politics, we are fighting pitched battles. Whatever the final results of the 2024 federal elections, they will not end the current civil war. That was true yesterday, is true tonight, and will be true tomorrow. 1/
I’m a little early, but after a museum visit and a hike, I’m allowing myself to tune in to election coverage. I stayed away earlier because there was no chance of learning anything relevant to the outcome. From now until results are certified, plenty of news will be relevant. Buckle up!
These actions for fraud and violation of consumer protection seek damages. They will be organized as class actions. In suits like this the monetary compensation totals can be quite high. 2/2
This won’t be the last suit like this. Participants in Musk’s million dollar voter giveaways have excellent fraud and consumer protection suits against him ever since his nutty defense to Philadelphia’s effort to get an injunction for him to stop his illegal lottery was that the operation wasn’t a lottery bc winners not chosen at random. Musk and his PAC publicly tweeted that they would be. https://www.reuters.com/legal/elon-musk-is-sued-over-1-million-election-giveaway-2024-11-05/ 1/
@trabern I had worked hard for Clinton, involved enough to see the misogyny she faced, from left as well as right. I was sad but not shocked when she lost the EC. I was galvanized. I went to teach, law students, and they were shell shocked. I booked a classroom and held discussion groups most of the afternoon. Eventually out of those conversations, founded Leaders from Law. Also got involved with grassroots resistance - what morphed into groups like Sister District, Swing Left, Indivisible… 1/
TFG is can’t stop fantasizing out loud about violence against women. That the mainstream barely registers his comments about him hitting M. Obama or putting Mike Tyson in the ring with Harris tells you all you need to know about misogyny in America.
Again Musk fails to show up to court. His lawyers have chosen an odd - to say the least -strategy to defend against the first count of the case against him. That count contends that the 1 million voter sweepstakes he has been running is an illegal lottery. Musk’s lawyers are saying that bc the winners have not been chosen at random, the operation isn’t a lottery. Problem for them: Musk and his PAC kept saying explicitly in tweets that winners would be chosen at random. https://www.inquirer.com/politics/larry-krasner-lawsuit-elon-musk-hearing-20241104.html 1/
@KamalaHarrisWin All those who contributed, boosted, and rooted for our Mastodon for Harris fundraiser: you have helped to fund this major ground game.
Here’s an excellent write-up about all the ways the 2022 Electoral Count Reform Act protects Presidential election results. The Act can’t and won’t prevent lawsuits from being filed or even all unwarranted Congressional interference but it does seriously limit the chances of the election being unlawfully overturned. https://rollcall.com/2024/10/31/election-means-first-test-for-changes-to-electoral-vote-process/
