@evan @coop seems a question worth answering ๐, since it could be interpreted that those posts are endorsed by our instance.
@evan @coop ah, yes. Clarification: I am not talking about search results.
I mean the "posts" I automatically see beliw the search box, *before* I enter any search term. See image. (From Android using moshidon client).
@evan @coop ok โฆ but some form of curation must happen, otherwise this would look like thr Home feed, right? Is it curated automatically based on popularity, somehow? Or hand-curated?
@coop a question:
When I use my Search interface, I also see a bunch of posts. I assume they are related to our instance, in some way.
How are these curated?
Thanks

@evan @mayintoronto years ago, while watching Dr. Who, with a friend.
@evan @lydiaschoch and, of course: Montreal's traditional, honey-dipped, wood-fired oven bagels - preferably with cream cheese!
Not a meal, someone says?
Ah, you've never had one, perhaps!
@evan @lydiaschoch Montreal: Schwartz's smoked meat on rye. Toutists make a point to drop on for a sandwich! (I've done it myself :-).
"The AI hype cycle would have you believe theย technologyย is inevitable. But AI backlash is growing, as people worry it will steal their jobs, jack up electricity rates and further enrich the wealthy, all while hurting the environment.
โฆ Only 18% of young people ages 14 to 29 say they feel hopeful about AI, according to a recentย Gallup survey.
The disdain spans generations and political parties."
AI backlash becomes a real business risk:

"If the economy has been producing more, where the hell did all the money go?
This is the answer. This Grim History tale involves a man most people have never heard of and a dateโโโNovember 1982โโโthat every American should now memorize.
It is the date the American social contract was signed away. โฆ

Meta wants to develop *continuous* recording on their spy glasses.
"Itโs pretty easy to connect the dots between these two stories. Mark Zuckerberg wants anything and everything he can on you, and he doesnโt care how itโs used once he has his paws on it and his data centers crunching it. The privacy implications are certainly real, even if you donโt use a Meta product but fall within camera or microphone range of someone who does."

@mhoye they're more that "in the way" now. They're a threat.
I'm afraid to download some interesting #linux add-on to solve a problem โฆ because I don't know if the app's been vetted by anyone I'd trust, whether it includes AIslop or malicious back-doors, whether it's funneling my usage stats - or, worse, my personal info - to some bad actor โฆ
I'm among those fearful of updates now.
Quite a change: I enjoyed tech before, wrote & ran my websites. Now I'm just a retiree who wants safe computing.
@evan thanks
@evan @tagspub @futzle so, how do newcomers to our instance know that tagspub is publishing all their hashtags, and that they need to add #noTagspub to their profile to opt OUT?
@evan "cool and fun" are not the adjectives I'd use for @tagspub .
I'd say: "has potential" and "feels UNSAFE". I have added #noTagspub to my profile.
๐ I wonder how many of our cosocial.ca members realise their every hashtag is being published to all of Fedi (incl. badly moderated instances)? How many know they need #nobots or #noTagspub in order to prevent this?
I didn't see any communication to members about our having been automatically opted-in, but maybe I missed it?

The video call I'm in now has two ASL interpreters (they take turns - it's hard work!)
What an amazing skill real-time translation is! To hear and also speak all at once - phew!
