#Pennsylvania voters: Election officials in Philadelphia and Montgomery County are publishing a daily-updated list of voters whose mail ballots contain deficiencies. If you submitted a defective ballot, there’s still time to have your vote counted. you can find out if your ballot was flagged at https://www.pavoterservices.pa.gov/Pages/BallotTracking.aspx
If you can, I recommend becoming a member at @democracydocket. You get members only newsletters from @marcelias. Here are some of Marc’s comments from today. “Each month I have tried to present a clear picture of what happened in the month before and how it will impact the month ahead. … But this month is different. We stand now at a crossroads, just days before an election that will upend everything that has come before it.“ 1/
“Equally important, however, has been the result of those cases. To be blunt, the GOP has learned that while it is easy to file a lawsuit, it is difficult to win one. Their losses have been staggering. In the month of October alone, the Republican Party lost 20 lawsuits.” — Marc Elias 3/
“[A] few trends worth noting to prepare for Nov. 5[:] No matter what happens, this has already been the most litigated election in American history. This year alone, nearly 200 lawsuits have already been filed in 40 states.
In 2020 Republicans and their allies were largely playing defense in court prior to the election. This cycle, they tried to flip the script by filing over 148 anti-voting lawsuits.“ — Marc Elias 2/
A p.s. from me: The need for the Harris campaign and other Democratic groups to spring into action in the courts in the days following Nov. 5 is one reason I have kept open our Mastodon for Harris fundraiser. There will likely be massive legal expenses for Harris for President. 7/7
“Normally, courts don’t have deadlines for when they must issue decisions. Of course, lawyers will request that courts respond by a certain date, but judges can do what they want and there is nothing binding them to a specific deadline. Election litigation is the exception and state courts have already said they will fast track these lawsuits.” — Marc Elias 6/
More words from @marcelias: “Like everyone else, I’ll be glued to the TV on election night as results come in. But on Nov. 6, the post-election period will officially begin and I expect the calendar to fill up quickly. November 2020 was the most litigated month of the year, and given this year’s track record, I would venture to guess November 2024 will be even busier.” 5/
Of course TFG is willing to do anything to be installed in the WH again. If he isn’t, sentencing on his NY state felony convictions awaits and so does a federal criminal trial in which DoJ has made it clear that his efforts to overturn the 2020 election are not “official acts” even under the Supreme Court’s capacious presidential immunity doctrine.
In person voter registration is still available in these states. Pls tell friends and family, help them get to the polls, register and vote. More info at https://vote.gov/
I just got off a terrific call with Tory Gravito, co-founder and president of Way to Win, one of the three grassroots organizations supported by Mastodon for a Blue Wave, https://secure.actblue.com/donate/mastodonbluewave. Tory invited me to speak with her because of our success there. Way to Win, like Indivisible and Swing Left, is already gearing up for the work that begin after Election Day, through Inauguration, and beyond. 1/
When the country’s largest political, legal, and cultural institutions are directly or indirectly threatening the safety of millions of Americans and undermining U.S. constitutional democracy, of course I’m scared and outraged. To be anything but would require willful blindness, a refusal to recognize the reality of the situation. 2/
Ok. I’m going through one of those moments of anger and fear over the state of the country. These feelings are washing over me. Rather than let them paralyze me, I’m at least going to write about them here because I know I’m not the only one who periodically feels this way. 1/
Friends. Most of us have lived through difficult weeks before. But we haven’t lived through a week that is difficult in the way this one is. In the run-up to this U.S. Election Day, we fight against the prospect of a fascist in the White House and for the first woman, a champion of freedom and democracy, to become President of the United States. So much is on the line. Be patient with yourself and with allies as we go through this week. 1/
I'm going to keep our fundraiser open as I believe donations up to Election Day serve a purpose. But I'm not planning on setting further targets. We have done a fantastic job!
If you support Harris and have not yet joined the @KamalaHarrisWin - which you do by following their account - your week before Election Day will be a whole lot better if you do. News, morale building, camaraderie - all there.
