@goatsarah @zoe Do you reckon Brexit, at least in part, is to blame for the rise in British transphobia? Transphobia sadly exists in every country, but few countries are as trans-obsessed as the UK. Brits no longer have the EU to blame for all their problems, so they need another scapegoat. For that purpose, trans people are like low-hanging fruit.

@goatsarah I remember around 2015ish, when you predicted that there'd be US-style toilet laws in the UK someday. I remember thinking that that was a bit far-fetched, but I've now changed my mind. Labour aren't going to be any kinder towards British trans folks, are they? 😞

@christineburns At this rate, they may as well get Az Hakeem to lead the 'review' into adult GICs because we already know the outcome. It's a repeat of history where Paul McHugh commissioned a biased 'study' to legitimise a political aim.

@goatsarah Suitcases too: I have a suitcase from the 70s that my dad gave me, saying "you can dump it". Is he nuts? It may look old-fashioned, but made of proper leather with metal clasps. I'm over 30, but am sure that suitcase will outlast me. Compared to suitcases made these days, which will last 15 years if you're lucky. I hate the concept of planned obsolescence so much!

@goatsarah This was my EasyJet experience yesterday: quick, efficient boarding without any unnecessary boarding groups. Front and back doors open for deplaning too, so I got off without waiting forever. The flight itself was OK too, as there weren't endless and unnecessary announcements from the cabin crew - like how there was on Flybe. I usually fly with Ryanair and I can't call the experience much worse than KLM or Lufthansa.

@goatsarah the endless guilt-tripping is their most powerful tool. Covert Ns are really insidious because they present themselves as shy, introverted, morally superior and even sweet, initially. They're masters at mental gymnastics.

Playing the victim, endlessly talking about themselves and constantly complaining are my three N red flags.

Do you have any advice on how to detect (covert) Ns before they can do much harm? Any specific behaviours to watch out for?

@goatsarah she kept repeatedly accusing others of lacking empathy - which her own mother described as "laughable, because she doesn't have any empathy herself". Thankfully, people saw through her lies about me and she was banned from our local LGBT community. But it turned out very differently when I was 19 & still at uni, much less mature, and having inadvertently offended a covert N. Lesson learned: ask yourself how this person makes you feel, don't just listen to words.

@goatsarah They've clearly not been victims themselves. I was, at the beginning of the year - by a covert N. They're insidious as it takes some time to realise what they are. I served as a voluntary therapist to a covert N and she thanked me with endless criticism. As soon as I told her anything about my life, she'd use "her depression" as an excuse not to listen. When I plucked up the courage politely call her out, she went around falsely accusing me of harassment

@alisonkiddle @goatsarah @lnr also how maths is taught, wrongly, as being almost entirely abstract. I'm sure there are many ways to use algebra on a day-to-day basis, but I was never taught any real life applications and so I don't use it, but I wish I could. I paid close attention when my teacher was talking about recognising misleading graphs because I recognised the relevance, whereas the rest of maths didn't seem relevant to me when I was 16 😞

@goatsarah honestly, I know trans guys who, during the first months on T, got into trouble for missing lectures and being late to work because they were...busy 😅

@goatsarah or TERFs who say that testosterone in trans men a) kills libido and b) it makes it impossible to orgasm. Tell me you've never spoken to any trans men without explicitly saying so 😂
