Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 04-Nov-2024 02:10:31 JST Jim Jones @vincent @cstross That's what I would say as well.
I have been hearing more and more people say "Anti Pope Dot Org Back Slash Charlie" recently and that's what baffles me.

Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 11:04:40 JST Jim Jones @silverwizard from there, of the police still won't do something, it turns to filing court orders to get information from the IP holders about who had the IP at the time of access and harassment.
Good luck.

Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 11:02:53 JST Jim Jones @silverwizard the method in the Forbes article uses a blog and site statistics apps to gather the IP information. Same principal.

Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 11:01:07 JST Jim Jones @silverwizard here is a Forbes article (that also points to more sources) on how to do it. Beware that it isn't a quick fix, but it can work if they are persistent (and it require some legal action, which isn't always affordable). https://www.forbes.com/sites/kashmirhill/2012/09/28/how-to-bait-and-catch-the-anonymous-person-harassing-you-on-the-internet/

Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 10:54:57 JST Jim Jones @silverwizard if you can host a file on a site where you can look at the access logs and then post a link to that file, you might be able to bait them into downloading the file which could give you their IP address in the access logs. A whois search for the IP address.could get you their ISP and geolocation information on the IP could get you the general area.
That's a lot of "ifs" and "coulds", though.

Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 06-Sep-2024 23:49:18 JST Jim Jones @cstross So our national security hinges on the fact that a midshipman wasn't wily enough to name the network along the same generic convention that already existed on the ship.
Good to know.

Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 28-Aug-2024 05:17:19 JST Jim Jones @Gargron That's a good tip. So you just take a tiny bit off each day for a couple of days instead of a bunch all at once?

Jim Jones (greatbigtable@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 06-May-2023 19:43:30 JST Jim Jones @AstroKatie @hollie that's unfortunate. Hashtags help spread information and stuff that gets "engagement" across the fediverse usually shows up under the # feed. I have seen a bunch of creators run AB tests between the same content on both current Twitter and Mastodon who have found good results here, but that is anecdotal.
