I only know my part of the world well, but even there, the Germanic assertion that all the land in Europe has been long parcelled out and there is no wilderness is absurd. Mountain summer pastures on land too rocky to farm, too isolated in winter to live on full time, and too far from large villages to transport perishables from, eg, are common in the Balkans, and transhumant herders used them into this century.
Not every rural economy has wheat fields and cows.

In practice…
I rather suspect the reasons are funding reasons. It would be extremely difficult for a US production with no English in it to find the money. Yes, that culture should be changed - it is changing, and the Shogun show is part of that change.
It would also be hard to find the actors, and not just the Portuguese-speakers. I don’t think it’s accidental 3 (at least - the ones I recognise) of the Japanese actors have US

@youronlyone you mean they should be using Portuguese for Portuguese? I get where you’re coming from, but I can see an argument for saying an adaptation of a novel written in English in which the English protagonist understands Portuguese and is fluent in it to the point where the book’s narration language and dialogue are both written in English can have English dialogue.

I’ve been using metatext for iOS since I arrived on mastodon, pretty much, but it’s become unusable. Been unhappy with the available alternatives - too cluttered aesthetically- but I’m really liking the look and usefulness of mastoot so far.

@liztai no, I take you at your word. I’m sure it is fascinating - for several reasons - but there’s no way I’ll watch it. I very rarely watch interviews, and never with people I find creepy.

Helping my mom get to grips with a new app on her iPad I discovered she has downloaded *and paid subscriptions to* three apps she had no idea she was paying for. Didn’t even know what two of them were.
Sure, that’s old age to some extent, and poor eyesight, but it’s also predatory design practices.
