Wish I had a really strong hallucinogen, like fiscal conservatism or w/e

These days my political engagement is focused on two local/regional groups, in one of them I am but a humble foot soldier and the other one has elected me as its leader.

The thing I keep saying in the group I'm leading is that my main task and responsibility as a leader is to make sure everybody's voices are heard, and I keep noticing that this is so much healthier, not just for the people I organise with but also for myself, than the Protagonist Syndrome I carried around back i my ~aCtiViSt~ days.

Like, hell, I'm only doing this because I want it to get done and the people around me have decided that I'm the person with the right skills to see it through. I do my best and if I fail sometimes, I fail.

It's not like the world revolution hinges on what a bunch of hippies in fuckoff nowhere backwaters rural Norway are doing, we're just taking care of one another and the community around us and trying to build something that will outlast all the nonsense.

One way or another that's gonna make a difference. And that's good enough for me. I'm not doing this to feed my ego, I'm not feeling superior or inferior to anyone inside or outside those groups. But I've certainly come a long way since the days when I thought of myself as an activist.

Had a good talk with my partner about how to survive the coming years and possibly decades with all the shit that's going on while preserving our values, and how to do so from a place of solidarity and loving one's neighbour.

I hope we all make it with our souls intact. ✨

@mrundkvist About 95% of Norwegian men are absolutely terrible people after like two drinks, the only one with low enough standards for it to work out are Norwegian women. I sometimes suspect that's the whole ethnogenesis story here

@Stoori It's a way to go for most of us. It's easy to drop out of that mindset and be swept away by... yeah. Reactive doom.

Gotta love how whenever you meet tourists here and ask them if they need help finding their way around, they're like, "Oh, we're just looking for a way out of this town"

@pettter It's interesting looking at the religious part (obviously, there's also the re-enactors and HEMA folks, the experimental archaeology folks, and so on and so forth) of the scene in Norway, where there is one organisation dominated by chuds and one full of nerd and queers. Really show how where there's a cultural vacuum, it will be filled one way or another.

@pettter Yeah it's the same basic story isn't it? Except punk didn't back down, punk stood up and reclaimed its aesthetic in the name of its values.

By the way, this is exactly how the fash got to take over everything related to Norse mythology. They made their claim to it and all the benign nerds stepped away from it because they didn't want to be associated with it anymore, and the whole dynamic was exacerbated by the work of well-meaning dipshits and busybodies who would freak out upon seeing a rune and erroneously believed what they were doing was somehow anti-fascist, when in fact it's a recipe for losing battles.
