@maexchen1 @ryanc Because for many that's simply not an option due to mandatory digital national ID relying on google or apple services for verification.

@Gargron It's already gotten to a point where you can't trust anything on the web anymore and that's absolutely fucked up. Is it a real person writing that text or even talking to you? Did someone draw that picture? Are those actual people in the video?
I actually like AI as a technology which could theoretically do a lot of good, but humanity don't have enough self control to use responsibly. First thing, literally, using it by abusing it to pollute basically everything everywhere all at once.

@pixelfed a lot of nay sayers here, and while i understand their reservations, and agree with the idealism. ...for a wider reach and adoption, .com is the correct move. it's unfortunately just how the average person views the internet. websites just aren't taken serious or trusted by the greater whole unless they are on a .com domain, wikipedia is not a food example as it is just old enough to be able to continue its existence on .org, but, it's an exception, not the rule.

@Gargron it's funny how they want to hurt third party apps because “they are making profit, that we should be making!" as if the money we spend on third party apps is money we would have spent on reddit itself otherwise. oh sure we have finite wallets, but if i thought reddit was worth my money, i would have made different choices. they still benefit from the content i post (or posted, anyway).
so much controversy this year. blizzard. twitter. DnD/WotC. I hope they all die.
see you all on kbin

@feditips @knova @SleepyCatten i wholly agree that human rights issues should be non-negotiable at all times, but as someone who have also administrated and moderated large communities in the past, i do understand their motivations for being passive and neutral to controversy. it's a damned if you do, damned if you don't, scenario. and bringing your own opinion to the table usually ends very poorly. which is why more noise/users is the optimal solution to drown out the bad apples.

@knova @feditips @SleepyCatten because there is nothing wrong with disagreeing with people and not wishing to go to war over it. i think what matters more here is to see reddit, a large commercial centralized service, fail, and the fediverse grow even larger, more so than i want to see internal drama ruin a good thing.

@SleepyCatten @feditips why is kbin more viable than lemmy? i checked kbim just now and at first glance it's both slower and has a less polished interface.
