   I think it would be amusing if Reddit did implode over this. It'd be entirely self-inflicted... The site is only usable with third party apps.

     @Gargron to me, reddit WAS the Sync app. I hated the redesign on desktop and stuck to old.reddit.com but I feel they'll be killing that off soon enough as well. Time for me to say goodbye. I haven't been back to reddit in over a week. I'm just sad that all the 3rd party apps and other innovation has to suffer.

     @Gargron I read earlier that they are apparently also doing "experiments" with some users logged-in on mobile browsers which forces them to download the app to use the site on Mobile.

     They seem to be committing.

     @Gargron @mastodonmigration Given that literally all value on Reddit is generated by user content, Spez ought to have been kissing the feet of apps like Apollo - they bring the users and keep them generating content, and therefore value. He could have monetized from those apps without killing them, but I guess he chose greed.

     old.reddit.com is far better than the normal reddit. I use old.reddit.com both on mobile and on desktop. I hope they don't kill that too.

     @Gargron it's funny how they want to hurt third party apps because “they are making profit, that we should be making!" as if the money we spend on third party apps is money we would have spent on reddit itself otherwise. oh sure we have finite wallets, but if i thought reddit was worth my money, i would have made different choices. they still benefit from the content i post (or posted, anyway).

     so much controversy this year. blizzard. twitter. DnD/WotC. I hope they all die.

     It's also been usable through old.reddit, so that's likely next on the chopping block. Gotta make sure every user has a ton of ad impressions, even if that means culling the userbase

     @Gargron The younger crowd doesn't remember a time when companies would focus on a good product (or at least pretend) and draw customers in with that. Now they're brazenly all about profit and don't mind sacrificing the product to cash out.

     @Gargron the main Reddit app is simply unusable with all its bloat - literally why I used to use a third party twitter client was the main app having a dump truck of ads and also Reddit but now both of them are gone. Apollo is Reddit for me.
