i feel like our social media options are more or less a variety of bear traps, and the fact that foss as a faction has nothing better than mastodon for this purpose illustrates the faction’s organizational and resource shortcomings. it is so much less a problem of, how do we architect an alternative, than answering, how do we raise institutions that could shepherd such a work?

i left bluesky for basically the same reason i left twitter. not because of nazis, not exactly (i left a long time ago), but because it was a place hopping with everything that is bad for my mental health

it is not so much that i want to police your language but rather it is really fucking weird when the words you most want to preserve from linguistic evolution happen to be slurs

somebody called it “newspeak” that people would be offended by being called idiot, moron, etc, and that maybe insults to intelligence categorically cross into ableism by dint of the construction of intelligence, but thinking about that would be too hard so instead let’s reach for the one book conservatives know about besides the bibble

but seriously if i am using an AI to write my apps, i have ceased to be a software engineer. i am at that point no different from a product manager, except i have delegated my engineering org to unaccountable sand that hallucinates

i put poetry in my code. i leave comments. i write docs and tests to high standards. my job is to be good at this. letting AI write your code is just admitting that you fucking suck at this

like using AI to write prose or poetry. the result sucks and everyone knows it and you only did it that way because you’re fucking lazy and contemptuous of labor and skill. normally calling someone “lazy” is ableist so let me be clear: i mean it as you have actively chosen to suck
