@garbados imo left hand of darkness isn’t even really about gender (you can read her saying that the first and most important element was “a planet with no concept of warfare” and the gender thing just emerged out of that).
Le Guin is rough around the edges in many ways but also tbh some of her essays on womanhood have really shaken up my own assumptions and self-perceptions.
