I did an archiving! The McCALL'S M4695 Men's Rennaissance Doublet pattern is more than 20 years old and out of print. I got my hands on one of the patterns and decided to go ahead and digitize it before I cut it up for use. Check it out on #InternetArchive if you'd like to use it!
Hey skiers and snowboarders. Did you know that #VailResorts is refusing to good faith negotiate with its #union in Park City UT? Yeah the ski patrollers have been on strike over Christmas because they won't give raises to match inflation.
If you think this is a problem, your can do something even if you don't ski in Utah! Vail Resorts owns the Epic pass. Consider letting them know you're looking into switching passes because of this
@markwyner I think the best strat is focusing on building strong communities.
Helping other people can make you feel empowered, and then the community is that much stronger and able to help you when you're in trouble.
My plan is to get together with a friend and dedicate one morning/afternoon a week to volunteering. I'll know I'm helping folks, I'm having friend time, and I'll be making friends who I can count on if I need it.
Hey friends, Do you want to help with scientific research? The University of Colorado Boulder needs people to help transcribe bee information from photographs of their collection. You look at a picture and type out any of the written information in the bee's label.
If you've got a few free minutes, give it a whirl! Even just doing 1 or 2 will help
@emilygorcenski yeah I was just there as an exchange student for a semester. While I never heard or felt anything disrespectful aimed at me (except for a handsy drunk guy at Oktoberfest) I sure did hear a lot about "guys who are just here to marry their way into citizenship". Ugh.
@julesh my fav forks discussion, from the movie Becket:
Thomas a Becket: Tonight you can do me the honor of christening my forks. King Henry II: Forks? Thomas a Becket: Yes, from Florence. New little invention. It's for pronging meat and carrying it to the mouth. It saves you dirtying your fingers. King Henry II: But then you dirty the fork. Thomas a Becket: Yes, but it's washable. King Henry II: So are your fingers. I don't see the point.
@anna welcome! Apologies if you're already familiar with all this stuff. Posts aren't searchable, so if you want other people to see what you talk about, use #hashtags liberally. You can find people with similar interests by searching hashtags. You'll probably want to follow at least 50 people to have a regularly updating feed. You can also follow hashtags for the subjects you're interested. Highly recommended you pick a couple. Check out @feditips for more suggestions on tailoring your feed.
@dgar this is actually often used as an example of bad design. The 180 degree turns are very difficult for wheelchair folks, and the edges without handrails make it a danger of tripping/rolling off the side and falling all the way down. Plus a lack of benches forces people to do it all in one go, which can be difficult for some. The lack of handrails also screws over low vision or blind people
