@FlashMobOfOne Oh good grief. 400K?
What a bunch of grifters.
@FlashMobOfOne Oh good grief. 400K?
What a bunch of grifters.
I don't remember the last time that I watched a DNC convention. At the midpoint of the Clinton administration in the 1990s, I realized that the Dems were largely full of shit and that their convention was just an advertisement for an over-blown product that almost always failed to deliver on what the advertising promised.
I don't really feel like watching an empty advertisement that goes on for hours and days on end.
When I was a little kid, Luke Skywalker was the character in the first movie that I seem to identify with most in "Star Wars."
At some point in later adulthood, that shifted to Han Solo.
I've never really stopped being Han Solo at the start of "A New Hope."
"I'm not sure about these other people and whatever it is they're doing. I'm going to do my own thing. Fuck it." is pretty much how I roll.
One of the gifts of being transfem is that moment when you realize that femaleness and femininity are nice, lovely things in the world.
Then you realize that all of the male peers you've known who are mortally afraid of anything connected to femininity (and who made your life hell because of that fear) are a bunch of silly people who are trapped in a prison that pours misery into their lives.
And the universe handed you a key to that prison, opened your cell, and shoved you into freedom.
Ah, I think my thread that hoped Tim Walz was the VP pick was the source of lost followers.
Meh, you do you, folks. At least he isn't the equivalent of a 1990s Republican moderate who we currently call the president. Obama made a shit choice for his running mate in 2008. I always thought Biden was a lackluster dipshit.
They're also afraid of the change that women living lives independently from men represents.
That's why their politicians and judges destroyed abortion rights.
Here in the united states, white conservatives haven't liked any kind of change since about April 12, 1861. And shit really upset them after May 26, 1865.
They're small, fearful assholes. And they want the ability to control an entire society so that they never have to experience change again and never have to fear difference again.
I mean, that's the whole point, at least in the u.s., of why white conservative suburbia exists. It's the place that frightened white people ran off to when black people stood up for their rights and then engaged in open rebellion when white people refused to allow black people to have rights.
Remember white flight in the 60s, 70s, and 80s? That was a bunch of frightened white people who moved to the suburbs with the expectation that they could immerse themselves in conservative white blandness
The quick summary is that conservatives are uncomfortable with anyone who isn't a bland-assed, cishet, missionary position only, John and June Cleaver, SUV driving resident of a cul-de-sac McMansion in the suburbs...
Because they're violent assholes who fear everyone who isn't them.
No, frightened white conservative people don't deal with with change. They've never liked change. That's why they fled urban areas when social change threatened their tiny white lives.
Now they're afraid of the change that trans people represent.
They're afraid of the change that immigrants represent.
They were afraid of the change that openly gay people represented. They still are.
They're afraid of change that an increasingly diverse country represents.
They're small, fearful assholes.
We're a couple decades past the great white u.s. migration and now we're dealing with the equally right wing bland assed conservative children of the frightened white assholes who fled cities because of their racist fear and hate.
And their offspring want bland, white, cishet, missionary position only, mega church attending neighbors living in their lives.
Everyone else is still a threat.
Seriously, sports of all kinds bore the living hell out of me.
The last time I watched anything related to the Olympics, it was figure skating. But that's more like dancing and it's kind of pretty to watch.
All in all, I have absolutely no desire to support the Olympics or any other large sports organization.
I despise the institution of sports itself. It's a bunch of bullying eugenicist shit that tickles the fancy of aspiring supremacists of many stripes.
No thank you.
I'm proud to say that I can count the number of times I've watched the Olympics on one hand.
And I feel shitty even acknowledging those few misused fingers.
And again, having survived the emotional and physical abuse of my school peers, I'm pretty clear that organized group violence and sports are inextricably the the two faces of a patriarchal Janus, sitting in plain view, with all of us pretending that it's good, civil fun.
Bullshit.
The fact that people invest so much emotional energy in forming group-centered identities tied in with sports teams is a major tell regarding its conformist toxicity.
I'll say it again:
Sports models war like nationalism on a smaller scale. It is patriarchal violence played out under the rubric of supposedly civil public events.
Ask yourself why riled up sports fans collectively, violently tear shit apart and fight in the streets after a sporting event.
It feeds the same war like impulses.
And full disclosure:
I was terrible at sports as a kid and I was bullied mercilessly by my peers because of it. It was made clear to me from my earliest years that male supremacy and violence are deeply entwined with the institution of sports and that sports was largely a symbolic stand in for organized group violence.
It's war played on a field with lesser forms of group nationalism.
Just like in 2008, I'm feeling a measured excitement over the prospect of voting for someone who will break previous demographic barriers in the white house...
While reminding myself that in spite of this excitement, I'll still be voting for a member of a half-assed political party who is going to produce shit policies bound in the usual fascistic violence and oppression of u.s. political culture.
I won't bullshit myself about this.
This is reality.
@FlashMobOfOne The most recent two came from my own instance, mastodon.social, LOL. I wish I could use that option but I'd only be hurting myself. 🤪
I've noticed a bunch of new follow requests in the past few months which are from accounts that have had no interactions with me: no comments, no likes, and no boosts for anything I've written.
I'm starting to suspect these accounts are bots rather than people who just follow and lurk quietly. There have been far too many new follow requests fitting this pattern lately and that makes me very suspicious.
Consequently, I'll be blocking any follow requests which fit this pattern from here on out.
I think Sarah's right.
Some people feel such a reflexive fear & disgust over someone breaching social norms that essentialize a sex/gender binary as immutable, they completely loose it and become obsessed with annihilating people who elicit that fear & disgust.
People get hung up on anything that challenges their sense of "normalcy" & "propriety" around sexuality & gender, and cis people's reflexive disgust toward trans people is driving their will to exterminate us.

Cis people's bigotry toward us has ALWAYS been about cis people's fears and insecurity about how they relate to and rely upon patriarchal norms to define themselves, to delineate the shape and behaviors of their sexuality, and to guide their place in the strata of social hierarchy.
Many of them can't see this or understand their own deeply irrational responses because their reaction is bound in such a gut-level patriarchal prejudice that has been inculcated in them since birth.
