I wonder where the breaking point is?
I feel like we should have passed it ages ago, but we're still waiting.
Why?

When I was a child, I thought racism was a southern thing. It wasn't until I got out of suburbia I became truly aware of how immersed I was in it - how it tainted *everything* around me. I breathed it in unthinking, because we could point at "history" and say, "oh, it was bad back then!" and think the problem had been solved.
Once I became aware, I realized just how much I didn't know. And I still don't. I learn more constantly.
Now I just try to learn, listen, & hope to help.

I have never worn heels in my entire life. When my sisters attempted to get me to wear high heels, I basically threatened to rip the heels off. As the shoes were expensive, they let me keep to wearing my flats.
I refuse - and have always refused - to sacrifice my comfort and health (and safety) for fashion.

Subtle sabotage, malicious compliance. Slowing down work, throwing wrenches into gears to make the system as a whole stop working.
Soldiers who don't get paid because somebody at some bank messed up their payroll might begin to wonder about their situation.
Trucks carrying ICE thugs breaking down and nobody having the right parts to fix them might slow the pace of their crimes.
We might have to think of being the mice chewing cables rather than warriors.

The artist, Boilly, displayed "revolting obscenity to republican morals, the obscenity of which dirties the walls of the republic"
But I'm sure they were just roommates.
"History is made by stupid people,
clever people wouldn't even try.
If you want a place in the history books,
then do something dumb before you die."

So, a guy named Randahl needed help translating a Danish phrase to English, and tagged another Mastodon user to ask. Four months later, someone on Bluesky read the post - which showed the image of the user he tagged instead of the link he needed help with - and was offended that he'd posted the user's profile to Bluesky. Which he hadn't done intentionally... it was an error in the way the bridge to Bluesky parsed the links. It blew up. He has since apologized, but many folks have blocked him.
Anyone working for ICE is working for the orange stain - not for the United States, and certainly not for you. They are stealing - literally - millions of taxpayers' dollars to abduct and torture people. They are traitors to everything America is supposed to stand for, and thus should be treated like the enemy whenever and wherever they are seen.
They know full well what they are. Why do you think they wear masks and refuse to show identification?

Teachers would disagree with you. The slop generated by AI is often so bad, the students who use it fail automatically. Especially those students who don't bother reading the slop that comes out and turn it in raw.
My physical disabilities along with my anxiety and mental health problems make it nearly impossible for me to go attend a rally, so I must thank everyone who went - you are my heroes.
And thank you for the photos. I love the photos. It makes me cry to see that people do still care. There are days I feel I can't take it anymore. Then there are days like today.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The wikipedia article has information on one case, with links: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_verification_in_sports
There's also an article in Scientific American that refers to it: https://www.scientificamerican.com/podcast/episode/sex-testing-in-the-olympics-and-other-elite-sports-is-based-on-flawed/
"It will not necessarily catch all men who try to enter a womenโs competition because some men can have XX chromosomes. All youโre going to do is catch women who have no idea thereโs anything different about them..."
Trying to be "bipartisan" when one side has actual nazis on it... makes you a nazi.
No such thing as "bipartisan" when there are nazis involved.
I'm not really optimistic about this upcoming fire season, which will start real soon here if the last few fire seasons are any indication of how the future will be going.

This video is a masterclass in passive-aggressive response. I'm suddenly a fan of this guy.
Ya'know, if the Onion sent out a call to ask people to donate $5 to help them buy Infowars, I bet they'd raise enough to blow any other offer out of the water.
Over on Threads, Jim Wright posted rules for using a public restroom: https://www.threads.net/@stonekettle/post/DCwqri5pKj4
"Step 1: Mind your own business.
Step 2: Use the facilities. Don't piss on the seat or the floor. FLUSH.
Step 3: Wash your hands. Put the paper towels IN THE TRASH.
Step 4: Leave while continuing to mind your own fucking business.
If you're in a public restroom and you're attempting to police the genitals of other users, YOU'RE the problem. YOU'RE the creep. YOU'RE the the public danger. YOU."

So my note about bridging to BlueSky went sort of viral, as much as anything on Mastodon goes viral... and BlueSky couldn't handle the sudden load.
https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/issues/1520
I'm sure it had nothing to do with my post. Anyway, they're getting it sorted, and supposedly the bridge will work again "sometime this weekend" for posts from Mastodon to BlueSky.
My original post with 453 boosts as of this writing: https://wandering.shop/@realtegan/113501306895638621
If you're on BlueSky and want to bridge to Mastodon, follow @ap.brid.gy
That's it. Nothing to install, no terms of service to sign, no complicated garbage. If you want to stop, just block @ap.brid.gy
Details here: https://fed.brid.gy/docs
If you want to bridge your account to BlueSky, simply follow this account: @bsky.brid.gy
Why am I encouraging this? Because when BlueSky inevitably goes bad, people there will have friends in the Fediverse to help them move here.
@cstross
I've known I was a writer since I first learned my letters and started immediately writing stories during recess.
I'm still not a particularly successful writer, but I am a writer and will always define myself that way.
It's good to read someone else who felt that way, and who understands the struggle.
A good thing to do today is check on a friend who hasn't said much since the election.
Don't ask if they're okay. They're probably not.
Just let them know you're thinking of them
Spread the word. And give out many virtual hugs.
