      Build yourself a Mini Search Engine

      A research project I spent time working on during my master’s required me to scrape, index and rerank a largish number of websites. While Google would certainly offer better search results for most of the queries that we were interested in, they no longer offer a cheap and convenient way of creating custom search engines. This need, along with the desire to own and manage my own data spurred me to set about finding a workflow for retrieving decent results for search queries made against a predefined list of websites.

    @fluffy @p @feld @mint @j @KuteboiCoder you can run it on any operating system without a virtual machine with https://github.com/nrootconauto/Aiwnios, so any SBC in kiosk mode with a 640x480 VGA display would work for that

    or you can take the devterms (640+640)x480 screen, and run something else side by side

    @phnt @feld @p @mint @j @KuteboiCoder honks code suffers from tedu's whimsy, it doesn't take too long to figure out what's a honk a chonk a donk a xonk a zonk a doov is, but it's also best meant to be experienced on a 2015 or later Thinkpad X1 Carbon with a 2560x1440 screen running chromium at 150% scaling with the dwm window manager so that the main menu lines up just right

    nice to play around with, but it's eventual explosion will leave you with all your 10grans gone

    @feld @p @mint @j that's more or less the benefit of the ecosystem than any real work to make the general codebase fit distribution better, but yes, looking forward to getting cachex switched out with nebulex, since that also makes sharing stateful MRF modules easier

    can't recall if Mix.install([...]) works outside standalone scripts, would be fun to enable and move some of the added on dependencies off the mix project file too
