@AnarchoNinaWrites@focusedontheberry I think it could be filibustered but that would require the Democrats to discover their spines and we can see how that’s going.
I'm tired man; I spent 10 yrs telling folks what was coming down the pipe and all I've got left is to shout "NOW do you see why you're a headass for arguing with me that any of those folks cared about stopping fascism and a world on fire at all? Now that ppl are getting ground up under the wheels of the machine, do you fucking GET it yet?"
And frankly I don't see the damn point. I was always in it to STOP this from happening, not to win an argument with obtuse collaborators. Let me die in peace
I dunno what anyone wants me to say; McBride doesn't speak for me and the situation is terrifying. By that same measure however, I told you that these folks were going to happily toss trans people to the wolves to make out with fascists and those of your arguing with me that this wasn't the case were just blatently ignoring that the Democrats were ALREADY DOING so to court suburban cracker voters that picked Trump anyway. Superficial representation isn't liberation and I told you so.
Most of you aren't old enough to remember the 70's and 80's when America's official position on the UN and international courts was "fuck em" and some of you aren't even old enough to remember when Bush passed a law to thunderous bipartisan applause allowing him to fucking INVADE the Hague to protect American and US-backed war criminals.
The ICC warrants are important because naming the beast is important; but the US will go full rogue state before it complies.
I get that I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, but I do know these things:
1. Cis people are not going to save us. Cis people are not going to protect us. Cherish our allies, but it's gonna be us doing most of the work.
2. Cis people do not become better by us taking some L's, like letting them deadname or misgender us, letting them say transmisic shit, or conceding that you should use the wrong bathrooms. Every inch you give them does not make them think, "oh, maybe I should be better", it makes them think that these are things they can continue to not give a fuck about and oppress us on, and that transphobes have a point actually. What nudges them to work on themselves is giving them shit about it and letting them know this isn't okay.
The breakdown of needs I still have for this month:
$300 for rent due next Monday $300 for cable TV/Internet bill due now $100 for wireless/mobile phone bill due now $100 for purchasing Thanksgiving food
All donations and boosts welcomed and appreciated.
My favorite subplot to the Trump cabinet appointments is the fact that he can subvert the checks and balances in our system by just appointing a pederast to Attorney General when the Senate is out of session and literally NOBODY in the mainstream is saying "holy shit this is a bad system and our checks and balances are a lie."
It's amazing how when it would benefit regular people the rules are ironclad and unbeatable but whenever it would help rich fascists the rules don't really exist at all
oh, yeah, and while i'm at it, allies with the means should definitely check the #TransCrowdFund and #MutualAid hashtags to help out trans people who're struggling!
this is a tangible way in which you can reduce the number of trans people we have to mourn. we are a demographic that is especially known for being consistently poor as fuck
2. Who curates the list and what are the criteria?
Packs floating around without any accountability should not be tolerated. The creator of the pack should stay attached to it via a recourse address, and be responsible for curing any problems that may come up. The criteria they employed in selecting the members of the pack should be clearly specified when announcing the pack and again in any directory along with the recourse address.
This is a tough one. Clearly Opt-In is safest, but would it be such an impediment that it would kill the feature before it can even get going? Opt-Out seems to be a minimum requirement and it is the technique that #FollowPacks has adopted. Tough Luck should simple not be OK.
Would suggest when a pack is published, and again in any directory, users should be advised that they can ask to be removed and given a clear means to request removal.
So what are the concerns? And shout out to @thenexusofprivacy for flagging some of these:
1. Opt-In vs. Opt-Out vs. Tough Luck 2. Who curates the list and what are the criteria? 3. If the pack includes bridged accounts to Threads and/or Bluesky does following it expose users data to these companies? 4. Can the pack list be used as a vector for abuse? 5. Can packs themselves include 'hidden' toxic accounts so people are fooled into following them.
First the positives. People really like them. Particularly due to the absence of an algorithm (thankfully!), packs help newcomers get going and veterans find people in they may have missed. So all good, right?
Not so fast. Like any new thing that has promise, there is also the need to be careful. Dynamite is a wonderful tool for road building, but...
One of the good things about Mastodon is we try to be deliberate about dangers, and this an area we should pay attention.
to paraphrase malcolm x, If you're not careful, MSNBC will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.
largely invisible, pro-capitalist framing --across legacy media, liberal cable news, and liberal podcasting-- is a major reason we do not understand ourselves, or share a simple story about how we got here and we get out
i don't know how we go about centralizing and amplifying left populist framing in this situation, but its what we need to do
its easier for the right to coalesce around a common narrative because capitalism is so compatible with fascism. we're fractured and don't share fundamental narratives on the left, because would-be coalition members get invisible pro-capital political frames from MSNBC and legacy media. these invisible frames, i think, are one of the primary reasons the Dems have been able to lead us off a cliff.
