at this point i feel like i can pretty accurately predict someone's politics based on their media diet (including youtube and socials). its an indictment on how little we talk politics irl with people outside our own worldviews, and how deeply we absorb political frames from our intimate, personal relationship with screens

wet forest moon folklorist (seachanger@alaskan.social)'s status on Sunday, 10-Nov-2024 05:33:58 JST wet forest moon folklorist as a course of action right now, i think lateral networking is one of our strongest tactics. we have to share narratives with one another across bubbles and platforms. and we do need to name billionaires/capital/capitalism/corporations/neoliberalism as villains when we do so

wet forest moon folklorist (seachanger@alaskan.social)'s status on Sunday, 10-Nov-2024 05:34:01 JST wet forest moon folklorist again:
largely invisible, pro-capitalist framing --across legacy media, liberal cable news, and liberal podcasting-- is a major reason we do not understand ourselves, or share a simple story about how we got here and we get out
i don't know how we go about centralizing and amplifying left populist framing in this situation, but its what we need to do

wet forest moon folklorist (seachanger@alaskan.social)'s status on Sunday, 10-Nov-2024 05:34:02 JST wet forest moon folklorist its easier for the right to coalesce around a common narrative because capitalism is so compatible with fascism. we're fractured and don't share fundamental narratives on the left, because would-be coalition members get invisible pro-capital political frames from MSNBC and legacy media. these invisible frames, i think, are one of the primary reasons the Dems have been able to lead us off a cliff.
