at this point i feel like i can pretty accurately predict someone's politics based on their media diet (including youtube and socials). its an indictment on how little we talk politics irl with people outside our own worldviews, and how deeply we absorb political frames from our intimate, personal relationship with screens

as a course of action right now, i think lateral networking is one of our strongest tactics. we have to share narratives with one another across bubbles and platforms. and we do need to name billionaires/capital/capitalism/corporations/neoliberalism as villains when we do so

to paraphrase malcolm x, If you're not careful, MSNBC will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.

      again:

largely invisible, pro-capitalist framing --across legacy media, liberal cable news, and liberal podcasting-- is a major reason we do not understand ourselves, or share a simple story about how we got here and we get out

i don't know how we go about centralizing and amplifying left populist framing in this situation, but its what we need to do

its easier for the right to coalesce around a common narrative because capitalism is so compatible with fascism. we're fractured and don't share fundamental narratives on the left, because would-be coalition members get invisible pro-capital political frames from MSNBC and legacy media. these invisible frames, i think, are one of the primary reasons the Dems have been able to lead us off a cliff.

@MattMerk @PedestrianError @majorlinux yeah i'd say as a propaganda for that message, MSNBC has been remarkably effective. they are also perpetually mixing up the frames so people are confused about what progressive even means

@majorlinux @seachanger That’s the same thing mainstream liberals/Democrats have been saying quite loudly since well before MSNBC even existed.

@seachanger I saw a video from them saying that Democrats need to abandon progressive politics.

Now they're saying the quiet part out loud.
