@whitequark the cooling loops are closed system, but at some point you have a compressor / heat exchanger, similar to an AC unit. That unit needs to dump the heat in the air. And using an evaporative tower and cheap water is a very efficient method. Or to avoid water use a dry heat exchanger with a lot of cooling fins and fans.
@inthehands oh, the recession warnings are flashing at my little company. Sales are starting to decline. At these big retailers the warnings must be bright red. So they are getting ahead of the curve and start laying off people. It all is about the economy.
@jackhutton And the broken #nyt can't even do simple math. "It is not clear how far the gift will go toward covering the salaries of the nation’s 1.3 million troops."
$130 million divided by 1.3 million soldiers is $100 per soldier.
That should cover their pay for a month or two. /s
@inthehands what would happen if we called it simulated intelligence, SI? An artificial object implies that it still has the properties of the original, while a simulated object only pretends to be the same as the original.
@skinnylatte@other_ghosts ah, interesting! Here in the Midwest people give away upright pianos, there are so many that were made by small manufacturers in our 100 year old houses, and very few people interested. So they are basically worthless, though they should fetch $2k to $3k... That probably scales to $30k in California rich person world.
@autolycos These things are incredibly expensive to move... When we bought our first house we also got an upright, for about $1200. In the divorce my ex got the piano and since then moved it to all the places she lived in the last 12 years, at a cost well over $10k...
@autolycos Oh, right, I am vaguely aware that they need to be tuned every now and then. Personally I failed at playing the triangle in 5 grade... My musical skills are non-existent...
