Can the people who are more knowledgeable around technology provide some advice to people in the US as far as things we can do moving forward to be more safe and secure with postings and having a social media presence?
Please, no negativity or unhelpful comments. Thanks.
If you’ve just left Twitter/X welcome! You’ve come to the right place.
There is no algorithm here so we encourage lots of following and “retweeting”. You can also follow #hashtags as well.
Posts are sometimes called toots. Retweets are sometimes called boosts or retoots.
If you want people to follow you, be sure to have a profile picture, something in your description about you, and some engagement: posts, comments, stars, boosts. People also usually do a post that is an introduction to them and it can help to pin that to your profile so people can boost it.
Many of us (all?) are grieving the US election now so comedy is appreciated.
I learned something new. I had a woman start DMing me out of the blue. It’s obviously the start of a scam, so I’m messing with the person. And then she types “Alaye” in the chat. I looked it up and it’s a word scammers use to identify each other. So if they say “Alaye,” and you say it back, it means “OK, we’re both scammers. We can stop wasting time and try to scam someone else.”
As with most things, I'll probably wait until the last minute to figure out the meaning of my life, panic, throw some shit together frantically, and then let it go, saying, "Eh, good enough."
@benroyce@StefanThinks I fear more about the misinformation campaign and the fact that we have no control over Fox Media or Xhitter just putting out whatever BS they want to put out and then people believing it. How do we deal with that?
@RickiTarr@SlatsGrobnik I mean, I used to feel more like Kermit, wrangling an insane group of goofballs. But on here I feel more like Fozzie, just throwing out terrible jokes and waiting/hoping for people to laugh.
I was thinking of starting a donation page for a friend of mine who is going through a rough time and hasn’t been able to find a job. Which site do people recommend for something like that? I know there is GoFundMe and Ko-Fi. Thoughts?
