Tech Tangents (techtangents@dialup.space)'s status on Monday, 05-Feb-2024 11:06:43 JST Tech Tangents @thomasfuchs I love the Dell Inspiron mid-late 00's models for XP. Popular enough to get for reasonable prices and to have most drivers saved.
An Inspiron 9300 in particular is my goto.

Tech Tangents (techtangents@dialup.space)'s status on Tuesday, 30-Jan-2024 01:05:06 JST Tech Tangents @thomasfuchs In general I wish there was more support for the idea of "stretch to black and white" for a quick instant correction in things like this or VLC(with hysteresis for video though).
It's annoyingly common to see improperly processed images like this with compressed luminosity.

Tech Tangents (techtangents@dialup.space)'s status on Tuesday, 17-Oct-2023 12:53:08 JST Tech Tangents @thomasfuchs This kind of misunderstanding is why non-political youtubers don't like to mention things like this in videos. You can't put enough nuance and context for something like this into a video about old computers. It's just going to make people mad no matter what you say. People CRAVE a reason to ostracize youtubers and will misconstrue things like this for drama.

Tech Tangents (techtangents@dialup.space)'s status on Sunday, 13-Aug-2023 00:39:11 JST Tech Tangents @thomasfuchs I'm gonna say twiggy disks are rarer. These are at least compatible with later more common 3.5" drives so I suspect a lot more of them were made. But I don't have much info to go on for that. I think there are only 1 listing of each on ebay right now and both are sealed. So supply at the moment seems to be similar.

This makes the 7th different kind of vintage 3D/VR PC peripheral in my collection now and these ones just have that awesome 90s look! I'm still figuring out how exactly I want to document all these on video, but I have some interesting plans in the works for it. -

Those seem more like a modern AR headset designed for business use than gaming. None of the gaming headsets I've come across so far use USB, they kind of faded away before that became viable.
