When my daughter was little, ~4 years old, she was quite shy ... and when I was speaking with someone, she'd often hide behind my legs ... but then she'd peek around and say to the person:

"I like your shoes"

... and they were invariably totally charmed. :)

I've been listening to Rachel Maddow's "Ultra 2" podcast ("ultra" is a right-wing term from decades back in the US), and how distressingly familiar now is the pattern of racist, fascist-friendly, perpetually lying, and dangerous, "populism" she describes in the likes of Joseph McCarthy and his supporters.

I found my car battery had died, parked in a somewhat rough part of town. I stood beside it with jumper cables in my hand, and tried to catch the eye of folks passing by in their cars. Most wouldn't look at me.

Then a fellow in a van stopped and said, "Need a jump?"... and he helped me out.

I thanked him and offered him a few bucks afterwards. He said, "No way, buddy — just pay it forward!"

That was 35 years ago.

I still remember him. ❤️

I'm reminded of the parody talk show sketch on Saturday Night Live years ago called, "All About Women."

The show's panel consisted of Dan Aykroyd, and Garrett Morris, and John Belushi.
