One of Ira's Keep Its today was about sites that try to scam people into paying more for the now required UK ETA Visa, but that's not really the source of the problem. He mentioned it because when Googling, the scammy links popped up at the top instead of the official UK link.
So, the Keep It should be to Google. Stop using Google.
Kagi, DuckDuckGo and Bing (DDG uses Bing) showed me the right result right away. Google also does this, but I have a bunch of shit turned off by default on Google to make it usable
I installed PeaNUT using a Proxmox Script, but I'm finding that the documentation around setting up an InfluxDB for historical data is non-existent, and the only option mentioned is using a docker container, but since the Proxmox Script installed with node, I'll probably just redo the whole think with docker.
I tried installing influx in the Debian container but it's not working
The City of San Diego sent a notice to all residents about charging for refuse collection (trash, recycling and greens). Currently this is "free" for all residential properties as part of the original city charter. A few years ago we voted on a measure that would allow the city to make changes to the charter, and this proposal is part of that.
I'm very torn about this because the city says they have a shortfall of funds in the budget. Charging for refuse collection would collect around 80 million USD to cover operations. This was more expensive than originally forecast because they forgot to include truck maintenance costs (as I heard from one of my ALC riding friends who works for the city. There are at least 3 gay city employees riding I recently found out).
If this proposal gets rejected, the city will have to cut funds to other programs.
Of course they NEVER say they will make cuts to the SDPD's 673 million budget and continue to give them more money every year. 593M in 2023, to 628M in 2024 to 679M in 2025.
So I both want to submit a rejection of the proposal but also want to make sure city projects get properly funded.
Threaded posts on Mastodon are easy to miss, especially if you stumble upon a part of the thread that was federated by your server but it didn't pull the rest of it, so I understand if context is missing when someone replies.
Bluesky on the other hand does not have this thread problem, the thread is VERY visible when you're browsing, at least on the apps and website, so when someone replies with something that has already been mentioned in the thread, I get more annoyed
I returned the CyberPower UPS that was making the annoying coil whine back to Costco. I still need a UPS for my office and not sure what to get. There doesn't seem to be many options in the consumer grade tier.
I have a weird issue with the #HomeAssistant Voice Preview Edition and queries using Google Gemini. It works fine using the Web/App with the same Assist backend, but queries sent from the PE device often fail.
As I was troubleshooting with the help of someone on the forums it started working so I have no idea why it breaks.
Got another APC Cyberpower UPS for my office and realizing it makes a noticeable high pitched noise/coil whine that I can hear because it's a pretty quiet space. I don't like it.
@skinnylatte I would venture to guess that the Yucatán peninsula has spicier food because habanero chiles grow easily there and have been part of the local cuisine since they were introduced by the Spanish.
The serrano chile is from the central mountainous areas of Puebla and Hidalgo so central Mexico cuisine and has a decent amount of spice level. The habanero being a lot spicier than the serrano of course.
The northeastern states seem to have more US influence and less spice, while the northwest these days is a melting pot of cultures from different Mexican states so you find a variety of spice levels.
@skinnylatte I would liken it to making it palatable to most white people. Laotian or Northern Thai places are the only spots where I know I have to be careful with the spice level. My tolerance has gone down over the years, but I still think jalapeños are not spicy.
I'm getting to the point where I'm just considering running more ethernet. Another run outside to Brandon's Studio, a run to the Laundry Room and try to push another one in the conduit to my office.
There are some "cheap" unmanaged 2.5G switches that provide PoE but are not PoE powered. These would work since they pass all VLAN tags, but then I'd need an AC adapter which adds to the bulk of wires that I'm trying to avoid since I can't easily hide them.
I was assuming that the UniFi Flex, which is used as a downlink port for two rooms, could be powered by USB C, but I was wrong. It only takes power from PoE so I need a PoE Injector...
This 2.5G Upgrade is a PITA due to the limited ability to run cables everywhere.
Hmm, the UniFi Controller interface is not great when trying to manage 24 ports. Especially since it doesn't tell me which ones are Gig or Poe+ vs PoE++ at simple glance. I have to count the first 8, vs the second 8 and the last 8...
Why is there no color coding in the controller when ports are inactive?
