I like Ubiquiti stuff overall, but they often annoy me with how they implement things.
The Native VLAN/Network setting on the switches does not work as I expect it to. I expect this to be the same as untagging a port in a VLAN, but it is not exactly that because if I select a VLAN here, it becomes unavailable in the trunk port.
This is what keeps fucking me up every time.
It also doesn't help that I have a separate UniFi Management network and I always forget to set the network override to that VLAN on new devices.
I think the last part breaking when I configure the trunk is that I've been setting the Native VLAN as this Unifi MGMT Network and it breaks the trunk.
There is no global setting for using a specific VLAN for Management, which also doesn't help.
Something got fucked. The management network use for the unifi devices is not responding so the controller VM lost access to all devices. I can't see the config of the switch because I need the controller, so I added another interface to the controller VM so I could connect to it and download a backup to run the MacOS version of the controller...
The only accent challenge I'm interested in is hearing how you say "Network Router" because I still can't recover after learning how it is said elsewhere.
I watch a lot of international TV and Movies and I'm used to different pronunciations. I didn't expect that one and I was delightfully shocked.
Cisco ASAs... 😣
I have some changes I need to make to a production device after finally installing an update that was holding me back earlier this week.
I won't make any changes on a Friday, so that means I don't really have a lot to do work-wise today
@badnetmask @furkarufam yeah it's a public library. I think it's a Makerbot Replicator
@furkarufam hmm not sure about those extra details but I'll have to ask! I didn't get the impression that they offered a lot of extra things other than the machine being available.
I really need to beef up the networking at Casa de Pug, gigabit is too old now
@GoTakeAKnapp that's what I want to do but I have a lot of smaller switches distributed across the house that need to be upgraded too, and there aren't a lot of managed PoE options out there
@GoTakeAKnapp now that I think about it, you probably can't do PoE on a 10 Gigabit port because you don't have extra pairs.
I realized today that I have an idling identical Proxmox box in my office where I can run the TrueNAS Scale Beta VM.
I was able to easily get the docker version of Nextcloud on there. I had read about issues with container versions not working with proxies, I still need to test that.
I'm running a Nextcloud Pi VM right now, but I don't really need any of the extra features it provides, and it doesn't get updates as quickly as the more direct versions, so the NCP version is still on Hub 9 where the Docker version on TrueNAS Scale is on Hub 10.
I never put my 3 Proxmox boxes in a cluster because some of my VMs can't run on other boxes: OPNSense requires the PCI 4 port card and Home Assistant has two USB dongles.
I also didn't want to worry about the quorum thing which can cause issues.
I debate putting them in a cluster every once in a while but just leave them as is.
I can somewhat easily move VMs around by restoring a backup that lives on the NAS, so that's good enough for now.
So I've been falling down some rabbit holes trying to decide what kind of CPU I would like to upgrade my old Skylake i5-6500.
Would be nice to replace it with something that has the same 65W TDP, so I started looking at Ryzen CPUs.
CPU Benchmark has the Ryzen 5 5700X as the best value, but it's AM4 and it would be best to get something on a newer socket.
This brought me to the Ryzen 7 9700X which has a TDP of 65W, is an AM5 socket, and has 8 cores and 16 Threads.
The CPUMark score of the 9700X is 37126 vs the 6500's 5623 😅 It is an almost 10 year old CPU.
Now doing this will require replacing the motherboard, but the bundles MicroCenter has for a pretty good price are ATX Mobos and my current case only supports Micro ATX or smaller. Unbundling and replacing with a Micro ATX mobo raises the price 150 USD...
If I go with an ATX card, I need a new case, and then the Jonsbo N5 isn't looking so bad because even though it's 250 USD shipped, it has plenty of drive bays and room for a lot of shit.
MicroCenter has a massive case with 8 drive bays for 100 USD, but it's white and I don't think it would pass the husband test to replace the black Fractal case which he tolerates.
Oh FFS Firefox

Proton abandoning Mastodon because of "lack of resources" sounds to me like a shitty excuse. Mastodon is probably where they get the most tags for their recent CEO moves so it's just easier to ignore the users on Mastodon and "nurture relationships" on platforms where they won't be held accountable.
edit: Thanks to someone pointing out this post with their follower count. They left the Social Media where they had the MOST followers
Is there one of those self-hosted archiving services for websites that can pull things from behind paywalls? Say like archive . md but in a way you can keep notes? Kinda like notion but with the ability to pull websites and archive them?
There's a certain kind of drama that just doesn't happen on Mastodon and I'm very thankful for that
This is my energy going forward
