   I think it's better a paid service done right, than a free shoddy one.

   If that will get the trucks running, the reject dealt properly, and most importantly, the people getting paid, then why not?

   Disclosure: my city charges for that, and the service is great.

     The City of San Diego sent a notice to all residents about charging for refuse collection (trash, recycling and greens). Currently this is "free" for all residential properties as part of the original city charter. A few years ago we voted on a measure that would allow the city to make changes to the charter, and this proposal is part of that.

     I'm very torn about this because the city says they have a shortfall of funds in the budget. Charging for refuse collection would collect around 80 million USD to cover operations. This was more expensive than originally forecast because they forgot to include truck maintenance costs (as I heard from one of my ALC riding friends who works for the city. There are at least 3 gay city employees riding I recently found out).

     If this proposal gets rejected, the city will have to cut funds to other programs.

     Of course they NEVER say they will make cuts to the SDPD's 673 million budget and continue to give them more money every year. 593M in 2023, to 628M in 2024 to 679M in 2025.

     So I both want to submit a rejection of the proposal but also want to make sure city projects get properly funded.
