Don't know where I got this -- "gin and tacos," some years ago.

Daniel Keys Moran (fatsam@mstdn.social)'s status on Monday, 27-Nov-2023 13:38:11 JST Daniel Keys Moran Democracy scares American fascists to death. They know full well their cis-white-Christian world is a minority, and growing more so.
And they hate it. They know how *they* treat minorities, and depending on others to be better than them -- though a low bar -- is not a risk they can manage.

Daniel Keys Moran (fatsam@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Nov-2023 01:26:38 JST Daniel Keys Moran #Abortion is simply a marker for white nationalism. When they were unable to be as upfront with their racism as they wanted to be, they switched to abortion as an issue -- as recently as the mid-1970s evangelicals were fairly indifferent to the subject.
There's no point in Democrats ever bending on this issue; the people for whom it's most important aren't ever going to vote Democratic no matter what, and abortion isn't the reason why.

Daniel Keys Moran (fatsam@mstdn.social)'s status on Friday, 20-Oct-2023 03:51:17 JST Daniel Keys Moran Got asked what Republicans want.
They've allied themselves with Putin. Some from blackmail -- it's not an accident they're such trashy people, they've been selected for their vulnerability to being controlled.
Others because they hope that, after they and Putin get what they want, they'll be able to do in America what he's done in Russia. He's the richest man in the world? America's dictator will be richer.

Daniel Keys Moran (fatsam@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Mar-2023 15:26:01 JST Daniel Keys Moran I stopped taking #StarTrek seriously about the time DS9 went up against the vastly better written #Babylon5.
And truthfully, this helped. Accepting that mediocre, even inferior talents, had taken control of Kirk and Spock's universe, made it possible to not be upset by the ongoing idiocy.

Daniel Keys Moran (fatsam@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Mar-2023 15:26:00 JST Daniel Keys Moran It made it possible to shrug when they took my story, "Hard Time," which was fair to good for Star Trek, and gave the emotional payoff to Julian Bashir rather than O'Brien's wife and daughter: there never were many recognizable people in Trek, post TOS, and the utter failure of the DS9 staff to understand what might drive a man returning from twenty years of prison? Didn't rate more than a shrug.

Daniel Keys Moran (fatsam@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Mar-2023 15:25:59 JST Daniel Keys Moran TNG, DS9, eh. Voyager, bad. Enterprise, *worse,* which I hadn't thought possible. I had brief hope for Disco, before a near fatal choking on technobabble incident in S2. I modestly enjoyed Picard S1, before a near fatal choking on Picard's idiot childhood and other bad writing in S2.
Have I mentioned the Kelvin movies? Not as stupid as Trek TV, and enjoyable enough. Not Star Trek, though.

Daniel Keys Moran (fatsam@mstdn.social)'s status on Sunday, 12-Mar-2023 15:25:58 JST Daniel Keys Moran I really enjoyed the first season of Strange New Worlds, despite their flat-out theft of Le Guin's Omelas: theft is deep* in Trek's DNA. I have zero hope for S2; if something good falls off the truck, yay. But I won't feel any upset if it goes sideways. This is what Star Trek has done, since "The Final Frontier," in 1989.
