   I made a comment about knowing guys with $10,000 worth of coffee gear on their counter. A buddy waited until today to ask if I was joking.

   KF 1800 coffee grinder, $13,995

   Slayer Espresso Three Group (cappuccino maker, does not include a grinder), $32,215.00

   You could spend $10k on fiddly accessories without blinking.

   You can buy a decent house in some parts of the world for what you pay for a really top end espresso setup.

     @RoyBrander I've had coffee from a multi thousand dollar machine, thousand dollar burr grinder, etc.

     I can't tell the difference between that and my Breville, and I'm not sure I could tell the difference with the $109 espresso maker I just bought.

     I can tell the difference between an Americano and drip coffee, but that's about my limit.

     There's the famous story in Freakonomics of the wine snobs who, when subjected to double-blind testing, could not tell expensive from inexpensive.

     The people with these devices should be subjected to double-blind testing on espresso from $32K equipment and $320 equipment.
