My media server's storage space is about one square foot.

I don't miss records. I have 3500 songs on my phone, 30k on my media server.

I don't miss VCRs. I have 1900 movies on my media server.

I don't miss cable. (Or streaming.) I have the complete runs of ~30 tv series on my media server.

I don't miss paper books much. 6000 books on the media server, and I have a hard time reading paper anyway. (Blind in one eye ...

January 6th is Insurrection Day in the United States.

In Mexico it is Día de los Reyes Magos, the day of the Three Wise Men. And you have a donut and maybe tamales to celebrate.

I foresee a *future* American celebration, involving donuts and guillotines: the day of the Thousand Unwise Billionaires. I'll do my part and get started today with the donut.

Old school crazy was more original than modern crazy. Pre internet unless you worked with crazy professionally, you wouldn't meet that much of it. When it came time you had to roll your own.

Modern crazy is a little smoother. Less of a gap, crazy moment to crazy moment, it's all influenced by other easily accessible crazy. "I've seen *that* crazy before!"

And you have. They borrowed it rather than workshopping it as far from humans as they could get: mass produced crazy, rather than artisanal.

"Woke" is when conservatives grow up and realize that the villains in the movies they loved as kids were based on them.

He was right then and he's right now. Billionaires have destroyed democracy in this country.

The Nazis are out to destroy modern civilization. They're a death cult staring at the end times, and perfectly comfortable with the idea that they will help bring the end times about.

I think that this is one of the main points of divergence between liberal (or merely sane) people, and the Oligarch/Nazi axis. There's a frequent assumption by liberals that in fact Nazis are merely misled, that they've been fooled by the oligarchs.

And it describes a very small percentage of the right wing in this country. Stupid, deeply stupid, but not evil. #notall as needed.

But it's not the mainstream. The oligarchs have written off the lives of 7/8 or more of the human race. They are perfectly clear that ecological collapse is coming. They merely plan to be the ones left alive, after heat makes the equator and the deserts unlivable, after the ability of the human race to grow enough food for the human race has been knifed.

They see a transition coming, where AI and robots can replace the need for any humans who are not actively serving their immediate interests.

The carrying capacity of the planet right now is capable of handling 8 billion people. But in 50 years? Probably not. (I'm not making specific numerical predictions here. But it will be much lower than it is today, very likely.)

The Nazis, the oligarch foot soldiers, aren't merely indifferent to your lives. They want to murder. They want you dead.

And the oligarchs, though having not too much malevolent intent regarding you, at the individual level, are perfectly willing to let them murder as long as the oligarchs get what they want out of it.

... the Nazis are going to be among those the oligarchs let die, or kill. So if you live long enough, you got that going for you: getting to watch this alliance fracture into the Nazis getting murdered by the oligarchs, and the oligarchs helplessly explaining that it had to happen this way.

If human civilization survives, it'll be because we decentralize power, water, and food. (And arm ourselves, most likely.) These are in many ways merely technical problems. We know how to grow food, we know how to distill water, and we'll get better at both. The hatred for renewables by the oligarchs is mostly driven by the fact that people who are self-sufficient are a threat to them. Certainly, I hope to be.

We are in a bad stretch and it will probably last the rest of our children's lives. A lot of people are going to die. Try not to let it be you, as the death cult of conservatism marches forward to its reward.

No, there's nothing shocking about this.

I stopped talking about polling to people. The idea that professional mathematicians were lost and unable to deal with demographic changes was important to them. Who am I to fuck with your delusions?

But the polling in 2016 said Trump had about a one in three chance of winning.

The polling in 2020 had him about 1 in 10.

This time it was even money.

I read post after post in the weeks leading up to the election, from people who were convinced that Kamala had to win.

It's not what the numbers said.

If I believe in anything I believe in measurement. Getting the numbers is the only thing, the only way, to protect yourself from the randomness of the universe. Once you let go of that, all you have is your desires telling you what the world is.
