When a conservative says "the poor will always be with us," it is a statement not of fact, but of intent.

"They're Nazis. Differ from them on no particular ideological point. Gender, race, sexuality -- they have the same respect for the American Constitution that Nazis did, too."

Dr. King's policy was that nonviolence would achieve the gains for black people in the United States. His major assumption was that if you are nonviolent, if you suffer, your opponent will see your suffering and will be moved to change his heart. That's very good. He only made one fallacious assumption: In order for nonviolence to work, your opponent must have a conscience. The United States has none.

An NSA tech I knew told me my mailing list was being monitored after 9/11, and suggested I tone it down.

Today? I'm certain I, you, and everyone who's ever posted on social media, have a score in a database maintained by the Nazis -- and they'll work their way down the list as quickly as they can.

It won't be *that* fast. Too many powerful families split across the liberal/conservative divide. Too many armed people who'll take action if they and theirs are threatened.

    But it's coming.

"The only ideology nuttier than communism is libertarianism. Communism doesn't scale, no, but it's ok in small groups. Libertarianism in small groups is "Lord of the Flies." We don't know what libertarianism looks like in large groups, none of them have ever managed to run even a small town anywhere." - Dan2017

... Well, now we get to watch a whole country being run by libertarians. Make sure your cupboard is stocked and you have plenty of ammo.

One note -- $5bn in savings is wrong. The overall costs to the federal Treasury, from this criminality, is now in the tens of billions, will eventually be in the hundreds of billions -- trillions, finally, if it crashes the economy as it might.

@quixoticgeek @itnomad if I were responsible for any European state, I'd be building nukes. I'm an American, and nothing but the threat of death has ever slowed our fascists down.

"I said that military force was useless against a multinational. Ordinarily, when they war among themselves, the giants use money and proxies and other maneuverings that involve lawyers and bankers rather than violence. Oh, they sometimes do fight with hired armies but they don’t admit it and it’s not their usual style. But these current jokers are using exactly the weapons with which a multinational can be hit and be hurt: assassination and sabotage."

@RoyBrander I've had coffee from a multi thousand dollar machine, thousand dollar burr grinder, etc.

I can't tell the difference between that and my Breville, and I'm not sure I could tell the difference with the $109 espresso maker I just bought.

I can tell the difference between an Americano and drip coffee, but that's about my limit.

I made a comment about knowing guys with $10,000 worth of coffee gear on their counter. A buddy waited until today to ask if I was joking.

    KF 1800 coffee grinder, $13,995

Slayer Espresso Three Group (cappuccino maker, does not include a grinder), $32,215.00

You could spend $10k on fiddly accessories without blinking.

You can buy a decent house in some parts of the world for what you pay for a really top end espresso setup.

Google Maps, Apple Maps, and Microsoft Maps have all switched to showing "The Gulf of America."

All three corps, and most of the rest, would have ratted out Anne Frank.

Don't do any organizing on *any* of those platforms. Right now, I'd recommend Signal first, and I don't have a second.

Nothing is going to happen to Musk.

Nazis control the Justice Department. The FBI. The CIA. The entire apparatus of federal law enforcement. The armed services. The courts.

Vote counting, at the federal level.

They don't control quite a lot of states and cities. If meaningful resistance occurs, that's where it'll happen.

But the federal government is lost, until they're removed by collapse or violence.

Google is changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, in maps. Because they're evil, which, in turn, is because they're run by Nazi billionaires in league with Trump.

    Ditto Denali > McKinley.

If you're not running open source, the Nazis are going to be *completely* up your ass. If that feels like a non sequitur, I assure you it is not.

I'm not nostalgic for much. (Except Nazis staying under their rocks.)

My media server's storage space is about one square foot.

I don't miss records. I have 3500 songs on my phone, 30k on my media server.

I don't miss VCRs. I have 1900 movies on my media server.

I don't miss cable. (Or streaming.) I have the complete runs of ~30 tv series on my media server.

I don't miss paper books much. 6000 books on the media server, and I have a hard time reading paper anyway. (Blind in one eye ...

January 6th is Insurrection Day in the United States.

In Mexico it is Día de los Reyes Magos, the day of the Three Wise Men. And you have a donut and maybe tamales to celebrate.

I foresee a *future* American celebration, involving donuts and guillotines: the day of the Thousand Unwise Billionaires. I'll do my part and get started today with the donut.

Old school crazy was more original than modern crazy. Pre internet unless you worked with crazy professionally, you wouldn't meet that much of it. When it came time you had to roll your own.

Modern crazy is a little smoother. Less of a gap, crazy moment to crazy moment, it's all influenced by other easily accessible crazy. "I've seen *that* crazy before!"

And you have. They borrowed it rather than workshopping it as far from humans as they could get: mass produced crazy, rather than artisanal.
