Finally saw 2001: A Space Odyssey
Here’s my synopsis:

Part 1: Ape men shouting. so much shouting

Part 2: the part everyone remembers with iconic space travel shots and HAL, which could’ve been a kick-ass movie

Part 3: Let’s experience what it’s like to do LSD, probably! Woohooo!

My review: a whole HOUR could’ve been edited out of this movie for PACING reasons, and nothing would’ve been lost.

I realize this maybe comes across as a sort of humble brag, but it honestly didn’t occur to me until recently that I equate “home made” with “healthy,” and while that may be true from an additive and preservative angle, it’s not necessarily true in terms of caloric or nutritional content.

Homemade pizza is still pizza, it just feels more wholesome and “nourishing.”

Hence, tricking myself into thinking I’m eating healthy.

I like to believe I eat healthy, but when I think about it, I actually eat a lot of things like pizza, tacos, and enchiladas. It’s just that those things are usually “home made” so they *seem* healthy.

I do eat salad on a pretty regular basis tho.

Making a meal “from scratch” using an actual recipe and base ingredients was not really a concept I was familiar with until I started teaching myself how to cook in college. Before that, meals were usually assembled by heating up an assortment of semi-or fully-prepared foods on the stove or in the microwave.

The only time we had “home made” meals was when we had dinner at my grandparents’ house.

Also I grew up with a mom who worked full-time and was still expected to make dinner every evening for our family of four. So we had a lot of prepared/frozen foods for dinner. Not TV dinners (at least, not too frequently, maybe once a week at most), but frozen chicken strips, canned veggies, instant rice, etc.

And our oven was broken for most of my childhood/teen years, so stove top and microwave was how she cooked.

We joked that the four food groups were bagged, boxed, bottled, and canned.

FWIW I do put a smattering of zucchini and broccoli on my pizza. 😂

And I do save money (probably?) by making it myself.

I don’t know how other people tend to cook dinner, but I LOVE cooking from recipes now, and then eating the leftovers for the next 1-3 days.

It can be tiring to do it every single night, tho. Easier “just heat it up in the microwave or on the stove” options are good to have on hand.

Oh and we NEVER had fresh vegetables or fruits in the house.

We never had salad.

My mom did not frequent the produce aisle, the deli, or the bakery section at the grocery store.

I didn’t know garlic came in any other form other than powdered in a jar.

I didn’t know there was a difference between real butter and margarine.

Ironically, both my grandfathers were avid gardeners. But mostly I remember them having loads of onions and fresh tomatoes in summer.

As suspected, Spotify is using generic stock Muzak bought from production libraries so they don’t have to pay royalties to artists.

Not surprised, since CEO Daniel Ek refers to music as “content” and thinks it takes little effort to create. 🙄

This is one of the ways “content” hurts the arts and severs the relationship between artists & their audience.

I think about this a lot too, Ricki.

Like if I was a multimillionaire, I’d have a nice (but still relatively modest in size) home with a beautiful view. I’d help out friends and family and charities. I’d single-handedly fund so many Go Fund Me’s and Kickstarters.

If I was a billionaire, I’d create and build my own theme park and bed and breakfast, too. Get ready for Medieval Land Fun-Time World!

The kind of person you have to be to become a billionaire is the kind of person who doesn’t really care about people to begin with. You don’t accumulate that much wealth without screwing over a lot of people in one way or another (with the possible exception of T-Swift).
